Really? I've never heard of this.
Apparently you can, I tried with my TP2, but the rep said that because of some reason (can't remember if it was price or because it was released that day) they couldn't go down any bit. But the conversation did sound like if I wanted other phones they might be able to do it.

And I like the Sprint look as much as I do Verizons. My point is that typically we either express opinion or give points based upon where we are physically located. What holds true for one will not necessarily hold true for another. Well, except the fact that Verizon will try and nickel and dime you as much as they can. That hold true across the board. I've experienced that one too.
Keep in mind Proto and I live in the same city.

Re: Decisions....

I think I am going to join up on my girl's Verizon plan. That will make the bill the same as Sprint would be on my own, and I get the better network. Thanks everyone for your thoughts, facts, and ideas.

Re: Decisions....

[QUOTE=ObsoleteE;1162091]I have 6 months left on my contract. The prorated thing started a few months after I signed that contract so I am SOL. I already spoke to a rep about this. It would be nice if there were a way around the fee QUOTE]

the rep is wrong... it doesnt matter when u signed up... they paid out millions in settlement fees... who did the millions goto??? people who had been charged ETFs with proof in the past....

why were they paying off people who had already paid the ETFs, and b4 the new terms... because they had too... it was deemed all were over charged and they had to toss back money... it was a 20dollar gift card or 5bucks on your account.... not really offsetting the fees somone would of paid b4hand, but ti paved the way for our new TOS agreements...

thats all you have to point out that its in the TOS, anytime sprint changes a policy or TOS, the next time we pay our monthly bill after the change, we are agreeing to it.... much like the asurion rate hike.... its not like everyone who had insurance b4 that hike doesnt have to pay it higher rate now....

so you couldve signed your contract 1yr, yr and a half ago... doesnt matter, sprint cannot charge you the full ETF after a few months because the price comes down every month after that.... if you have 6 months left your ETF shouldnt be more than about 75-100 bucks...

try a different rep...and even retentions... not to argue with, but to get the facts from someone other than a possibly brain dead Sprint CS agent

you can be grandfathered into the Rate of a plan, but they cant try to grandfather you into ETFs... flat out, carriers are not allowed to charge the full ETF amount after a few months of service at a minimum

Re: Decisions....

Really! Thanks, I will be sure to bring that up when I cancel. Now, when I sign up for Verizon, they automatically cancel my Sprint account, correct? Is this the time I should put a call in to dispute the ETF charge, or should I do it beforehand?

That is BAD advice if you want to take your phone number with you to your new carrier. Cancelling service at the old carrier will make the number transfer (porting) process much more difficult, and may even make it impossible.

Keep your old service. When you activate with the new carrier, do it with a representative on the phone. Tell them you want to port a number from your old carrier. They will ask for the number and some security information about the old carrier account. Within 24 hours, you will have your old number with your new carrier. You will have a temporary number with the new carrier in the interim. Once the number is ported from the old carrier to the new one, the old carrier service will be cancelled automatically.

Also, for the OP, I would point out that your network coverage should not be much better either way. A Sprint phone will roam to Verizon towers. Sprint does not charge roaming on their current plans. The only way this matters is if the Sprint signal is much weaker than the Verizon one.

After my experience with Sprint customer service I think the trick is to keep them on the phone as long as you can. I called them back after buying my TP2 and asked to credit my account the difference of the price match. They didn't want to budge either. Every time they said "no" I told them that my wife was on Verizon (she is) and that she was nagging me to switch and I that I really prefer Sprint. I asked them to throw me a bone to go back to her with to convince her that it's the right thing to do for me to stay with Sprint. Finally they at least came back with one month free service and signed me up for the "pick 3" land line deal for free. Not the price match I was looking for, then again I had already purchased the phone and have only been a customer for a year.
