Re: Smartgear works great on Touch Pro 2! NES! Genesis!

Awesome work Bitbank; Using the file posted 4-30-2010, the virtual d-pad is cut off for me on the upper portion; the "A" button is not visible or touchable, and the "up" flipper on the d-pad is pretty much gone.

I realize the virtual d-pad is not very functional. I did it as an experiment for my HD2 and found it to basically suck. My conclusion is that any touch-only device needs a wireless gamepad to have any hope of playing classic games. If any of you beg to differ, and have some good suggestions for making the virtual d-pad suck less, I'll clean up the code to work properly under all conditions.

Do you know of any wireless gamepads that work with your emulator on a Touch Pro 2?

SmartGear includes code to directly support the BGP-100 on the Touch Pro 2. SG also supports the Zeemote JS1, but only on devices with the microsoft bluetooth stack (e.g. Touch Pro 1). I am reluctant to invest the time to learn and code using the Widcomm SDK to support other phones. It's very unfortunate that Widcomm doesn't support bluetooth sockets like Microsoft's bluetooth stack because it means lots of extra work for developers and incompatible products.

P.S. I think the TP2 keyboard is reasonable for playing most games, but a good d-pad works better. The most gaming friendly device I have is the T-Mobile Shadow. I also have an HD2 and I prefer my TP2, but I find that web browsing is much better on the HD2.

the BGP-100 is so expensive though.

I'm considering looking into writing code against the Widcomm BT stack.
I will gladly provide my source code to you if I am successful and it could make this program work with the zeemote.

I would be very grateful if you could provide any help in making things work with the Widcomm stack! I found a good source of BGP100's is dealextreme; they sell it for $24.28 including shipping.

I currently use the Microsoft bluetooth stack in a very simple way to communicate with both the BGP100 and Zeemote:

1) Discover BT devices in range and look at their 6-byte BT address.
2) Compare the first 3 bytes of the BT address (manufacturer code) to the known addresses for BGP100's and Zeemotes. If there's a match, create a socket and connect to the device.
3) Have a thread waiting on recv() from the socket and parse the data.

For both devices, there's no special initialization necessary; they just start spewing data when you connect to them.

Any help you can provide with the Widcomm SDK would be very welcome.

Thanks,
L.B.

Re: Smartgear works great on Touch Pro 2! NES! Genesis!

Question I think it best suited for the SG forum, but i frequent this page.

I am a HUGE Doomtrooper fan I see you have the GENESIS Ver on your site. But there are B1, B2 , C , H1, files. Would I need all of the files to play it? Sorry such a noob question but I'll fork over the $10 gladly to play this and the game where you selected a group of monsters in a hex grid pattern over a map and fought them. Can't remember the name of it. I LOVED those two games!!!!!! BTW great work on this emu!!!!!!!!!!

For all of the console systems that SG supports, each game is contained in a single file. The multiple letter versions of games represent different ROM dumps. Usually they all work, but sometimes not. The only letters that I recognize are U=USA, E=Europe, J=Japan. The rest seem to be dumps from different sources.
