SPRINT is soo weird, so i just checked my invoice and i didn't get charged any shipping or activation, and they shipped it next day. they couldn't gurantee next day on the phone she said it was different in each area, but when i tracked it ups, its next day airsaver. I did get hit with $60 tax though.

I should get mine on Tuesday.. I'm thinking about using it for 25 days or so and exchanging it for the Hero if I'm not too satisfied with it. I have been using windows mobile for a while and I don't see it having much of a future with the way things are going now with Iphone OS, Palm WebOS, and Android.

I think Sprint would never allow an ESN that is not in their data base.
Unless you change the ESN...

Or am I misunderstanding the phrase direct ship to mean somethin other than the obvious? lol

According to my local store, you can go in to the store on the 8th and order it overnight to the store for the 9th, but it won't actually be available in the store just yet.

JackG058: I'll guarantee UPS did not change the method of shipment... Sprint sent the order to the warehouse, where the shipping label was printed up. What ever service level Sprint told the warehouse to print on the label is what they printed, and UPS doesn't change that. UPS doesn't hold packages deliberately without attempting to deliver, as keeping packages in a center is a liability and there's usually just no room for them! They certainly can screw up and not deliver it on the day promised, but they won't just change a NDA to ground or vice versa. Most likely it was either an error between Sprint and fulfillment, or they were taking advantage of UPS' ground guarantee. If you're within one day of delivery from Louisville, they might very well ship it ground, as it would get there the same day, barring any screw-ups. Even if you do ship something Next Day Air, it will only get on a plane if the ground network can't get it there at the same time.

Yup, I'm an employee. Don't think UPS is perfect by a long shot, but they didn't just change the service on ya.

I spoke to a sales rep at sprint and they told me that the reason sprint is higher on prices is because of monthly service, and compared it to buying a car...
which does not make any sense because when you buy a vehicle you are not looking down the road at gas prices you are looking at the price you can get the vehicle for at the present time. Liek Verizon and Sprint pricing on there TP2 handsets. Can't see the justification for this

Well, when a LOT of your subscribers are paying $30 a month instead of the normal $60+, that higher premium is justified, if you know what I mean.

Agreed, I even had a sprint telesales supervisor admit to me "it was our fault in the warehouse" after they tried to blame UPS at first.

Ok, even though my email from Sprint said Next Day Air PM, I'll give UPS the benefit of the doubt on the ground change. However, why in the world wouldn't they let me drive to the local facility and pick the stupid package up instead of making me wait until Tuesday? Sprint even called them and they wouldn't budge. I also know the direct number to the local facility and called them and they wouldn't let me come get it. So, it arrives at the receiving hub in KC, Kansas. They send it over to the Lenexa facility which is where they load the trucks. All this on last Friday. At about 11pm that night it gets signed back in at the KC, Kansas hub. I am certain come Tuesday morning I'll see it back in Lenexa, followed by out on truck for delivery. I know once on the truck UPS absolutely will deliver it no matter how late it may be, but I just don't understand not letting someone come get the package themselves. It would have made them one happy customer, instead of someone with a bitter taste in their mouth.

You could have gotten it had the customer service area at your hub still been open. No matter how many times UPS has told me over the phone that I could not go pick up my package without a delivery attempt first, if your package is there, and they are still "open" (my hub is open until 8pm on Friday), then they will try and get it for me.

@ 11pm? Nah... Not going to happen.

But hey, its already technically Monday. One more "sleep" to go before you can wake up and expect your TP2 to be delivered. OMFG the drama. lol.... it's all good and fun though, like Christmas bro. :D

Well, when it was at the hub that they load the trucks from I called about noon. I suppose I could have driven out their but I didn't want to waste the time if they weren't going to cooperate, which they didn't want to. Oh well, you are right. One more day of waiting and I'll have mine too. I'm satisfying myself right now watching YouTube reviews. :)

I thought the opposite.... I knew if I drove out there they WOULD try and find it for me. And they did, but the truck just hadn't arrived yet from Knoxville. It came in 15 mins after I left, and customer service had closed. :( hehe

I don't think you or I should try playing the lottery anytime soon, that's for sure. Since I can now officially say "tomorrow is phone delivery day" I will. Its now 00:20 Monday morning. Yay!!!

It's an absolute nightmare to retrieve a package when it's in the center but not actually on the truck yet. The package doesn't actually get put into the package car (the brown UPS truck) until the preload sort, which starts around 3am and runs until 7-8am. At that point, it's easier to retrieve your package, although it screws the data up a little bit. But before it gets to the package car, it's sitting inside a semi trailer, quite possibly a 40 or 50 footer, also full of packages. So in order to find your package the night before, when the tracking says it's in the building, they would have to send a couple people into the trailer and sort through thousands of packages in order to find yours. I know, because I had to do this years ago when an important medical package was missorted. We knew what trailer it was in, and it was critical that the package be delivered, so we made an exception. There were 4 of us unloading and searching packages, and it took about 20 minutes if I recall correctly. That's a lot of effort to go through for people like us who just want their phone a day or a weekend early! From the customer side (which I also am), of course I want my package now! I sit there and update the tracking screen like an OCD monkey. But from the UPS side, it's just usually not possible, and since I understand the infrastructure, I know how impossible it is to find a single package that's still in the trailer.

Bottom line: if your phone is supposed to be delivered tomorrow (Tuesday, day after Labor Day), then it's not even on the package car yet.

Now what the phone jockeys SHOULD do is actually explain this to the customer to try and alleviate the hard feelings, but they are just a call center and aren't even UPS employees anymore. I've always been of the opinion that people giving information to customers should actually know what they are talking about, but hey, what do I know. Only been there 19 years...

hehe just to piss some of you off:
from sprint
Your previous email states that you have accepted my offer and upgraded your equipment. After reviewing your account, I see that a Touch Pro 2 was ordered on 9/3/09 and billed $449.99 (plus tax) to your account. In light of the offer that was made, I have issued an adjustment of $487.11 to your pending charges against the charge of the Touch Pro 2. This will reflect on invoice dated 9/29/09.

UPS should be glad to have you as an employee, because you are right, this explanation could have gone a long ways towards making me less upset. The people I talked to were far less concerned about helping a customer to understand than you are. And honestly, if it is as big a hassle as you describe, I wouldn't want to put anybody through that just for y phone package, because I'd hate to be the guy having to sift through thousands of boxes just so I could have my phone. So, thank you for caring enough to help me understand the process.

Just a curious question: do you get to deliver yourself your phone when it arrives? I'm just wondering if you do how early to work you'll be that day. :)

Heh. I don't deliver packages, but I do sometimes work in the building that delivers to my house. I also walk right past the specific package car that my package is sitting in. I've never actually taken my box out of the package car before a delivery attempt was made, but it has been VERY tempting. Being management, I could see someone complaining about me taking away union work if I were to grab my own package, so I don't want to go down that ridiculous road. I usually just have it delivered to work, so I get to play with it a few hours earlier at least. Really sucks when it's delivered by the other guys though! It gets announced through the entire office that your FedEx package has arrived. Doh.

Anyway, glad to shed some light, but also sorry that nobody else bothered to explain... Not that anyone will listen, but I'm going to share this with a couple people in the attempt to at least get the freaking script that they read modified. If they don't know anything, at least let them read it to the customer.

Now watch, your phone will be misdelivered and I'll look like a total chump. ;)
