If your account is in good standing then tell them you want to unlock the sim for a local sim card when you travel abroad. When they talk about charges from the sim carrier, do they mean straight passed through charges? Does VZW mark it up in some fashion? I'm wondering about pre-paid SIMs available in Europe specifically. there shouldn't be any pass through charges for those, right?

If it's anything like the Storm, it will come with a Vodaphone SIM that will work overseas (overseas use different GSM bands than we do) and bill straight to your Verizon account and use your existing number. The GSM radio will be enabled but locked to Vodaphone SIM cards but you will be able to call Verizon and have them unlock it for use with a 3rd party SIM card. You'll have a different phone number when using that SIM card and all GSM billing will be handled by whoever you purchased the SIM from and not through Verizon. Thus, if you purchase a prepaid SIM, you get no bill.

I wasn't "sheesh"ing you, csa02221862, i was "sheesh"ing VZW's ridiculousness, which never ceases to amaze me. Not having any experience trying to use a world phone with VZW *yet* I honestly didn't know what to expect, not that I was doubting you.
