ive seen it for $50 @ the store with 2 year, and you could get a used one in great condition for less than a bill,

but like you said, why bother. I don't know why anyone would get this phone for any reason with everything else available, I think its insane to charge $100 deductible for an instinct, but just as dumb to buy right now as part of a contract deal

Re: Sprint Touch Pro 2 Release Date Sept 6TH Per Sprint Corp

Here's an image of a chat session I just had with a Sprint agent. I've blacked out his name and session ID, just in case it would cause him grief. I'm not wanting to cause anyone any trouble. Sure seems like the 8th is the day, unless Sprint can move it up somehow. Oh, and the chat agent told me it would be available on the 8th in stores, online, and telesales, so that's a plus.

It's a good phone for some, like my wife. She's not very technically oriented, and this has been the easiest phone for her to use, at least of those that have any features beyond the basic flip phone. She can surf, watch TV, email, text, GPS, take pics, etc. All without having to ask me how to do something constantly. For that alone, I hope the Instinct is around for awhile.

I wonder if the 3rd is like the launch date but the 8th is the "official" launch date

touche, there's always that. But anyone posting on ppcgeeks probably wouldn't have much use for one.

The problems with the instinct are, based on my very limited usage of one:

Sprint won't allow developers access to the phone features, such as GPS, re-skins, etc.
There are a lot of java apps, but they are mostly games. Nothing really serious, other than a web browser, or two.

If developers could be allowed to develop some real apps for the phone, this phone could build a following, and be considered a serious phone.

what OS does this phone even use? would developers really take the time to take a part a random proprietary OS that will probably never be used again? But I agree sprint should just let the devs do what they want to do, no reason to be like apple with that phone.

I think the current instinct uses BREW 3.0, which is a java based OS, which can be used on any java based device (duh), windows mobile, and surely could be used on Android and WEBOS, using some type of emulator, just like on WM. The Instinct S50 that is supposed to be released at the same time as the TP2, has BREW 4.0.

Sprint tried to setup an Instinct app store, I think around the time the Instinct S30 came out, but no one wanted to bite, because the phone was too locked down.

While Apple may screen every app that gets posted to the store, there are a ton of apps available. The ones that do not get the nod, typically go to Cydia, or whatever the "jail broken" app store is. Sprint doesn't even give the potential Instinct developers this chance.
This post has been thanked 1 times.
