This is not a rom issue, this is a gmail issue. I have the exact same issue on the 3 roms i tested: Stoke verizon rom (latest version), mighty mike last rom (what i had loaded when the problem started last thursday) and the 18 may 2011 energy reference rom. So a really old rom has it, a year old custom rom has it, and a rom released after the issue started has it. This is not a rom issue.

Looking for a rom to fix the issue isn't solving the problem. Looking with a fresh set of eyes is what is going to fix this. A new custom rom certainly didn't fix it in my case.

It's not just us Touch Pro 2 users having problems arise recently my friends.

oh wow I am not about to sit here and be apprehended by a bunch of lurkers, especially for trying to help out. if its not a stock ROM issue then cómo es possible que when I used several custom roms with the 21916 build and Gmail as an account that I haven't had this issue? I've explained that on the last page as well as even provided a workaround.

Alternative to IMAP for Google Mail.

If you only have one Google Mail/Apps account you need to access AND you are not already using ActiveSync with a MS Exchange server then you can setup Google Mail/Apps to use ActiveSync instead of IMAP.

its a gray area as to what the exact cause of this is and should be taken with a grain of salt. for those who dont know you can have your gmail synched into ur hotmail and then add that folder to show up in the hotmail section of mobile outlook, that should eliminate the need to add gmail as a separate account. on a side note ive had gmail enabled in several custom ROMS (with 6.1 and the 21916 build of 6.5) and have not experienced this issue.

dude seriously you could be a vip and still know nothing just cause ur rep points are higher don't mean anything it just means u made alot of posts replied to alot of post or was thanked alot to earn ur status and greater level of experience only counts if u could solve the problem with current issue and truth is any rom doesn't matter which rom or update can have that effect on a tp2 ...and what u just tried to pass down was that ur vip and u know more then any1 else

24 hrs no probs here. solution was to remove gmail accout. exchange account still working fine...

I would like to thank everyone that says Gmail is the problem. After reading the posts ,I know that I am not crazy that something else was involved. I have had this phone for 3 years and added GMAIL last fall.
You are right. Gmail has had to change something. I had a Sprint tech check my phone .He said it was not the ROM. He was at a loss a I. He has been working with phones for 15 years.
I have not had time to change the settings in Gmail. Question how did you get to the SSL section to do the uncheck. I can not remember the path.
I had my Gmail set directly to the phone so if I get mail om the site it comes to the phone. If I can't get it to work right. I will do what I do with Yahoo. Go directly to Yahoo and sign on Yahoo mail.
