Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There

wow this thread is hijacked up. the OP didn't get a chance to say if her problem was solved. anyway as discussed in this thread and numerous others on this site the only solution to this is a custom rom (preferably the 21916 build of 6.5) or a 6.1 rom.

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There

MY Touch Pro 2 on Sprint has also been having this problem (SOD or Standby of Death) just in the past few days. Stock rom, even reset it all back just like the day I got it.

First a tip, if your phone is doing this you can wake it up by calling it from another phone. Saves you the long soft reset time if you have another phone handy.

Anyway the problem is Gmail. They must have changed something since it seems rather widespread.

The simple fix is to change the schedule for any gmail accounts to be manual. If it does it automatically at all it will lock up eventually.

If you check a gmail account manually and it hangs on "connecting" or "disconnecting" (IIRC) then you need to kill it from your task manager. It only happens sporadically. Anyway I think that when this hang happens in the background (via scheduled email checking) then that causes the SOD. If you get a manual check to hang it does not cause the SOD, but you'll be draining your battery if you don't kill it.

Anyway, I hope there will be a fix at some point, but this workaround at least makes the phone usable again.

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There

With 18 hours of usage without Gmail but with Exchange running, everything is fine. I opened up the Gmail web page and turned off the new "importance" tags and the "sent only to me or to a group" arrows (can't remember the name of that feature). So far, with a 5 minute check in Gmail it seems to be working correctly. We'll see how long it lasts. I have a good backup just in case.

I don't believe this is ROM specific since I've seen the same think on three different ROMs. It's entirely based on connecting to Gmail.

Nope didn't work, as soon as Gmail attempts to connect, it freezes. Both in manual connection or scheduled.

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There

Another possible fix, I looked at the manual settings vs the auto settings and compaired them against the Gmail webpage instructions for WM6. Turns out, this step:

15. Make sure that the Require SSL box is checked for both incoming and outgoing emails.

was NOT done by the auto configuration when I setup the account. Everything else was as the Google instructions stated except those checkmarks. I have manually send/received serveral time since then and it worked as expected each time. Can anybody else check these settings and see if yours are not checked?

Try changing your gmail IMAP server from imap.gmail.com to imap.googlemail.com and your SMTP from smtp.gmail.com to smtp.googlemail.com

I tried this first after reading about the GMail possible cause and it has not SOD'd on me yet (2-3 hours so far).

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There

I have had this phone for 3 years and no problem. I can't see why there should be anything wrong with the rom. The 6.5 update came from HTC direct. I went in and changed the setting on the backlight on the external. Un checking the turn off the device . So far no problems. On the Battery side I put the backlight at 2 min. And unchecked the turn off Device . So so good. It does eat into the battery, but when I am at work I have it completely off.
I did notice that checking Prl update ,It seems that I have older date on mine from either 3/2010 or 10/2010. I have it on charger in the other room. I noticed somewhere on this site there is a newer on. Plus ,my windows updat app has gone away.
Love this phone. It has everything I want. It is a world phone so when we are out of the country on vacation I don't have to bother a friend for theirs.
There us not one phone out there right now that I would have. I love my "mini" computer!
