doing a bing search will turn up tons of articles about this issue here is the one that was posted on this site at this time last year PPCGeeks.com ยป Sprint & Verizon Touch Pro 2 WM6.5 Causes ‘Sleep Of Death’ the only way to get rid of it is to flash a custom rom with a 21916 or 28xxx build or revert to the 6.1 rom |

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There
I manage about 90 of these Sprint HTC Touch Pro2 devices for a large Home Health organization and have been constantly working to resolve this issue since last Thursday evening 5/19/11. That was my first report of a problem. Believe me, I have tried all of the solutions listed here, I've opened support cases with Sprint, HTC and our Medical Software vendor (due to custom programs being loaded on most devices). I came to the conclusion just last night that the only thing these devices had in common was that they were all using GMAIL in their email settings. Once I changed the SEND/RECEIVE setting on the device to MANUALLY, it no longer "froze" in sleep mode or, as I now refer to it...The Sleep Of Death! We use Google Apps for our email platform and I intend on opening a support case with them today in hopes of quickly resolving this problem.

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There
Well, I removed the GMail account from my phone completly and it is still doing it. I really don't want to change ROM's as the 6.5 ROM was working fine for me for a year. Something somewhere has changed recently.
I am giving it another try after removing ALL Google related email accounts from it, I had 3 on my own domain that use google apps. So now it's just Outlook/MS Exchange and AOL for mail. Last edited by TheTechGuru; 05-24-2011 at 12:43 PM. |

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There
how can blaming the rom not make any sense when it is well documented across the web and in many threads on this site? here's another article :
"Sleep of Death" plaguing the Sprint & Verizon HTC Touch Pro2 after WM 6.5 update? - Phone Arena how much more proof is needed? plus im a VIP and have been through this issue myself and solved it by using either a custom rom or the older stock 6.1 rom, the other more experienced users on this site have been through this and solved it this way as well. sl if you don't want to flash a new rom keep sticking with the Gmail fantasy that's going on now. not trying to be rude here just being brutally honest and showing some touch love . |

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There
Rant mode on.
This is not a ROM issue, this is a GMail issue. I have the exact same issue on the 3 ROMs I tested: Stoke Verizon ROM (latest version), Mighty Mike last ROM (what I had loaded when the problem started last Thursday) and the 18 May 2011 Energy Reference ROM. So a really old ROM has it, a year old Custom ROM has it, and a ROM released AFTER the issue started has it. This is not a ROM issue. Looking for a ROM to fix the issue isn't solving the problem. Looking with a fresh set of eyes is what is going to fix this. A new custom ROM certainly didn't fix it in my case. Rant mode off.

Re: HTC TOUCH PRO 2 SCREEN GOING BLANK and Stays There
My phone has not SOD'd today yet after deleting ALL GOOGLE REALATED EMAIL ACCOUNTS from the phone. This includes BOTH GMail AND Google Apps email accounts.
I had been running WM6.5 for OVER A YEAR without any problem like this. Anyone that says 6.5 is the problem is a MORON that just wants to cover up the problem instead of fixing it. Something somewhere changed in the past week, I guess it's up to the few intelligent users to find it. |
