Exclamation Sprint cooked my phone! :(

Okay, I am pissed beyond pissivity. I took my TP2 into a Sprint store tonight for a headphone jack problem. They proceed to tell me I had WATER under my screen, my phone has NEVER been wet or damp ever, it lives in my purse and the casing is in flawless condition. Never had a problem in the 9 months i've had it but just started trying to use a headset with it and it wasnt working. Anywho...

They take it to the back and I hear what sounds like a hairdryer, then then bring it back to me. I asked if that was a hairdryer and the guy says yes. Which I am upset cause I told them it wasnt a wet spot. That didnt fix the little patch of goo under the screen that was visible but didnt impede my use of the touch screen at all. They then tell me the glue around the touchpad is melting into the screen and I must have left the phone in heat, which is another fallacy. I have never let my phone out my sight much less left it anywhere near heat. They go BACK and put the hairdryer on it yet again for a longer time, and when he comes back they tell me the touchscreen STOPPED working and they are ordering me a new phone. The screen is now FUSED permanently to the phone! NO response whatsoever with finger or stylus on any part of the screen at all and I am LIVID! They then tell me that since the glue was already under there it would have failed soon anyway (NOT). So now I have to wait for the new phone to come in, but since I was in the store late after 7pm, the order may not come in til the day after tomorrow. I can't text, open apps or do a damn thing with this phone except pick up and hang up incoming calls. If I want to make a phone call I have to slide it open and use the keyboard which is awkward as all hell.... I'm just pissed I walked in with a fully functioning phone and walked out with a paperweight. *sigh*

I wrote this epic story to ask ONE question... How in the world do I close an app out totally if I can't hit the X in the upper right hand corner? I can't even access the Task manager. Am I doomed?

Help?

Re: Sprint cooked my phone! :(

You can do everything with your phone if you're by a PC. You can use mymobiler to control it via your PC when it's connected to activesync.

Wow! That sucks!
It sounds like the digitizer was on it's last leg anyway. You're better off getting it replaced anyway.
You could use MyMobiler or EveryWAN to get to any data on your device. To close apps you could set the long press end key to do it in settings if you can get to it. Good Luck to you!

Happened to me also, took a tp1 that wouldn't launch the internet but otherwise fine and when I came to pick it up it wouldn't even power on anymore. Didn't matter because I had a backup phone but if i didn't I wouldve been angry

Re: Sprint cooked my phone! :(

Okay I navigated to the settings with the keyboard and arrow keys but the only options for the long end press was airplane mode, ringer vibrate, lock phone and one other useless thing. So I cant set long end press for end task. WTH, I am going to scream, I have about 10 texts I can't even access. There are some things you HAVE to use the touchscreen for.

Any other suggestions to get to end task or texts?

Re: Sprint cooked my phone! :(

OP why didn't they give you or you ask for a loaner phone. Several times that I have had to get a phone repaired, I walk in give them the bad phone. They give me a loaner phone to use until my phone is either fixed or they ordered a new one.

Re: Sprint cooked my phone! :(

Using the back button or end call only takes me back to the main screen. I used to always have to go into task manager and x out to actually close the program running.

And I called the 800 number first to get this fixed, but the 2 times I called both reps told me it was a hardware problem and sent me to the store. TRUST ME I havent been in a sprint store in at least 2 years, I have danced this dance before... ARGH.

As for a loaner, I asked and they told me no, since they ordered me a phone already, it was almost 8pm too and manager wasnt there. I have a call into the store manager this morning cause I need a phone like NOW. Store doesnt open til 10am. I have a backup of everything on the phone, but with no loaner to load it in, its useless at this point.

Re: Sprint cooked my phone! :(

sounds like the people you dealt with didn't know what the hell they were doing. like horndoctor said...your digitizer would've given you a problem anyways within the next few days, so a replacement was really in your near future.

as far as the loaner phone, if you decide to go back to the store today, tell them that you really need a loaner phone because you use your phone for work...and that you can't get to your text/email messages. stress to them how it's just not possible that you have pending messages from work that you can't read/reply to because they won't give you a loaner 'til the replacement comes in.

If you can get to the task manager app that is in the main Windows folder using File Explorer you can probably end tasks that way.
They really should have given you a loaner phone. Sounds to me like they just didn't want to fool with it.
