as far as functionality goes i would call it about even at this point (john i know your slingbox isnt there yet you dont have to say it) but android has a lot of functionlity that isnt available on winmo as well. -i can press the button on my headset, say "dont forget to pickup the dry cleaning at 6" and it automatically puts a reminder in my calendar. the speech recognition is ridiculously accurate and thats just one of the many uses for it. -my phone switches profiles based on gps location, when i walk in my office, automatically goes to vibrate, when i walk back into the house switches right back to normal without touching a thing. -tasks apps on android actually integrate into the calendar!! who wouldve thunk it lol! -when i plug in my wired headset, the music app launches by itself. -once froyo drops, real flash content, chrome to phone extensions, and more -dunno if anyone is political but with the congress app i can view all my local reps (by gps) see the latest bills they have voted on, contact them directly etc. -gaming, not even a contest. (perhaps more hardware related but im not sure) now i know some of you will say "i would never use any of that anyways" ok you may not but the fact that the functionlity is there says a lot. i dont want to turn this into a pissing contest and im fully aware that theres things you can do on winmo that arent possible with android yet, key word being yet. people tend to forget android hasnt even been around 2 years and the progress its made is ridiculous. imagine when its been around as long as winmo has. ive drank the koolaid and its yummy im not a winmo downer at all like i said earlier i still use my tp2 quite frequently. are there still a couple bugs in android that irritate the crap outta me for sure there are but honestly i would say at this point the os's are about even. I agree totally, but that is exactly why I'm not "drinking the koolaid" yet. There is no way I want a new phone so badly that I am willing to do without apps I use everyday because they will be out "sometime this Summer" but don't work in Android today. I am actually one of the few users than can honestly state that I could get along without the hardware KB as unlike most posters I almost never use it. I use TouchPal 3.5 & can out type almost any hardware KB user with that setup. I can type insanely fast with TouchPal. On the other hand, I can't type worth a damn on my ipod touch KB. I'm no WinMo fanboy by any means, I would gladly switch to Android if I could make the switch today & loose no functionality but that's not possible at this time. I personally don't care what a phone sells for, I can afford it & if I wanted an Android setup I would definitely have one ordered. I am 100% happy with my latest TP2 setup (NRG 23569 ROM). It is very fast, has never frozen up once & looks awesome. Even though I rarely use the KB, I'm still glad it's there (for certain things, it's super) I will continue to absolutely love this phone & all its awesome capabilities until Android grows up some more. I agree that Android seems to be the future, but that could be six months from now (& that's an awful long time in ''computer years"). There could be phones out by then pushing these models onto craigs list for around $100 as the next gen come out. ~John |

not could be, will be lol. froyo (2.2) isnt even released and gingerbread (2.5 or 3.0) is supposed to be out before the end of the year. verizon has a lot of high end android phones in the pipeline. when the functionality you need comes, you will have a great selection of phones to choose from Last edited by redd214; 06-03-2010 at 09:38 PM. |

There is no doubting that the TP2 has the best hardware keyboard on any mobile phone. At least that I've ever used. Keeping that in mind, the EVO (and HD2) have the best touch-screen keyboard on any mobile phone, seeing as they have the most screen real estate. Quote:
But, the landscape is changing. Android is now getting Applications that aren't just watered down internet site apps. Such as function widgets to sync information with your home computer or system utility programs. I know I didn't list specific apps, (I'm not going to take that kind of time) but I'm speaking conceptually. Windows Mobile has a lot of the older and useful "techy" Apps, but few of the newer more social media or "fun" apps. Android is evolving into both fun and functional. The market is growing at an ever increasing and almost out of control rate. But Windows Mobile? Almost stagnant. Other than community based efforts and a few software manufacturers it's all about done for "Windows Phone Classic". And once Windows Phone 7 comes out we will be all but dead in the water. If you don't end up jumping ship now, you will be in the next year. That's almost a fact.

So what?? Why is waiting until Android grows up a little & actually does all the functions you have today in WM a bad thing?? ~John |

Re: STAYING with WinMo
I am staying for now, although I have to say I have been quite impressed with the development of Android. The HTC Incredible is, well just that. Android would give me all the same features that I love on WM, plus the advantage of being able to find all the programs in one convenient place.
What I can't get, and why I haven't switched, is the World Phone capability. I am planning on a 2 week trip to Europe this fall and I am dying to use the good ol' TP2 while I am there. When I return though, I will probably be taking a serious look at what is available. After all, 4G and LTE is on its way which will make the TP2 a step behind. I figure that the next one will either be an Android or a WM7, but WM7 had better have the same wow factor that Android has had in recent months if it wants a serious shot. One thing is for certain though, I will NOT be considering a Crackberry. I hate those things. I would rather have an old Motorola Startac than a Crackberry... Speed...

Re: STAYING with WinMo
I just purchased my TP2 a few weeks ago knowing this would be my last WM phone.
While I use the stock ROM I put in a variety of programs that allows me to customize the phone. So in terms of satisfaction with the TP2. I'm 9 out of 10. However I've grown weary of: 1. Sluggish Screens 2. The number of soft resets required every week 3. The pitiful state of Windows market place 4. The necessity of spending hours finding the right programs to tweak the phone 5. The number of hard resets necessary and the hours spent bring the phone back I probably could go on, but those reasons are enough for me to move on next summer to Android. Rather than learn the lessons from Android WM7 seeks to give users less control rather than more control modifying the system and using 3rd party applications. For it's lousy browsers alone, WM deserves to become irrelevant as Android matures. Last edited by RickRed40; 06-04-2010 at 01:22 PM. |
