Re: STAYING with WinMo
I really thought this thread sunk long ago, but I was wrong.
Honest to god, for the last week I've been drooling over the Evo. Especially since I live in the 4G city of Las Vegas. It's "Oh my god 1GHz" this, "4.3 inch screen with 8 mp camera" that. A lot of hype! Now I'm scared that I've ended up playing into it. The hardware advantages of the EVO is apparent, it's a great phone! Android is a great OS! My issue is that I really don't want to turn into that kind of person who ends up buying and wanting a new phone every 6 months! (No offence to anyone, but if you can afford it that's great for you) But me? I used a 2002 Pentium 4 3GHz with a nVidia 7600 GS 512 for 8 years before I upgraded to a 2GHz duo computer that was actually given to me. I stretched the life out of that thing to the max. Now? I have my Intel Core Duo 2GHz iMac, an Atom Eeepc N270 and a Touch Pro 2. Yeah, I want a new i7 iMac, a Atom D510 or 460 but I don't NEED it. There is a slight pinnacle though, I feel as if 1GHz phones are going to be the major players very soon. The Qualcomm 7600 just can't cut it to a 1GHz Snapdragon! It's almost twice as fast. But there is a problem with the EVO and other 1GHz phones, they are the first of their kind and in an age of planned obsolescence; something better is right around the corner. I just read today about Qualcomm's 1.2GHz dual-core mobile processors that are going to be out by the end of the year. There have also been Droid Shadow and other Snapdragon leaks left and right. Although this is unavoidable; and the mobile version of Moore's Law of pcp will continue. Moving on... I actually am getting App fever, but in reverse. I use GTX Sense on my Touch Pro 2 and love it. It's my favorite cellphone interface to date. The only problem is that it's a bit laggy and there are already existing faults in Sense that cause multiple complications for me. I mean, for the love of god, if my phone freezes one more time while exiting my text messages I'm going to murder Steve Balmer with a frozen snickers bar! Would it kill HTC to make my TP2 not be incompatible with my SD class 2 card? I want to listen to my music without it pausing!! What is with this half baked software? I'll just go back to what I said earlier, "I just want my phone to work for me, not me have to work for it." Someone should copyright that and just get it done! But I digress. I love Cookie's home tab, I love my two rows of apps, calendar, weather and time display all on my home page. My beautiful slider and clean daily planner. SPB TV, so what if your sound doesn't always work for me. I love watching mobile television. OneNote, will Evernote live up to your standards? My keyboard is so perfect and I want no other substitute. While capacitive is great and all, I do love my stylus and resistive. Decisions decisions!? While I do have a serious case of EVO fever, I think I'll take a dose of Windows and allow my $200 to continue and burn a hole in my pocket. Well, at least for another week. Oh, yes. QMeli907, get you Incredible yet? Keep us up to date. I'd like to hear word from fellow/former dedicated WinMo user. Now I wrote this for a reason. Take my points and use them in my own logic and try and look beyond the hype. For that is why I HATE the iPhone, no one can look at it's faults because they are just so dead set on worshiping it. Read this thread: Got My Evo_Thoughts after 24hours before you make any upgrade decisions. It proves that Android is having the same problems we are. -BBQ

Re: STAYING with WinMo
1gz snapdragon is great until M$ decides to bog it down with bigger new OS.
They luv to do this all the time with computers so I just install XP on my laptop instead. Im thinkin downgrade hack for phones as well. Imagine a snapdragon running WM6.1 or Sense2.1, end of lag as we know it. Why do they think all us Tech guys want high tech phones only to operate touch screens like old lady? I want extreme speed but they never giv it to us.

Re: STAYING with WinMo
I use windows osx blackberry and webos. I believe that I will always use windows. Apps just make it easy to view the web. On my windows phone I can view the web and download whatever I want or need, not like the other platforms. They use apps to hide the fact that their not a true web experience. The main thing about a smartphone is it has to be smart enough to search the web for what I want and apply it to my device, not go and find a watered down app. I like the ease of use of other platforms but I am a real power user and you can only get that from windows. But those moving to other platforms should realize that winmo is getting better too, and IMO, it has always stayed on top of the other platforms, ESPECIALLY the iphone. But the bottom line is, it all depends on what you want. It's that way with every product on the market, from potato chips to cars.

Re: STAYING with WinMo
What really cracks me up is, for the last six months everybody has been raving about the awesome TP2 hardware keyboard (legitimately so)
Now, all of a sudden we don't need a hardware KB anymore?? What happened, did everybody give up texting so they could buy a shiny new phone LOL (that in its current state has less functionality than a Windows phone).... ~John |
