But, I want to be able to quickly add recipients to texts and the "favorites" screen in Sense works really well.
There HAS to be a way to keep Sense and just default to MS messaging, right?

So, you're more comfortable with SLUGGISH messanger that's GIMPED. Ok, then.

Re: Sprint's 6.5 forces you to use "HTC messaging" over "WM messaging". Is there a fi

Ok guys, I did a decent amount of research and this is what I came up with............

Using SMS-Chat as default messaging - This tweak might be helpful for any one who has SMS-Chat installed and wanna use it as default messaging. Just make a small hack on your device and from now and so on whenever you tap the message box on today screen of PhonEx,for ex or on the messaging of Spb Mobile Shell or wherever messaging is based on,the SMS-Chat window will be opened instead.

Redirecting of Messaging to Vito SMS-Chat : You need to use a registry editor to perform this action. Please take note where you install the SMSCHAT Application.

Go to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Rai\:MSINBOX

Device : in the string "1" write "\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

My Storage : in the string "1" write "\My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Storage Card : in the string "1" write "\Storage Card\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Please soft reset the Device after you have changed the registry.

Default string 1 is tmail.exe

Tweak for SPB Mobile Shell 3

You can tweak the SPB Mobile Shell so that when you press the SMS and it will link it to the VITO SMS chat

Go to HKLM\Software\Spb Software House 2\Spb Mobile Shell\Menu\Root\Messaging
Change the String in Text to the following depending on where you install the SMSChat into.

Device : in the string write "\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

My Storage : in the string write "\My Storage\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Storage Card : in the string write "\Storage Card\Program Files\VITO\SMS-Chat\SMSChat.exe"

Please soft reset the Device after you have changed the registry.

Default String is Messaging

Now you don't need to map any hardkey for SMS-Chat bcoz whenever you tap the messaging it then links you to SMS-Chat.

Note : If you have outlook setup or any email acount in default messaging ( I never get my email access that way.) and don't want to use any standalone app for organizing and managing your email box instead, then not do this way otherwise you can't open your email causing default messaging has been closed,so not available there for you to access.

One more thing, when you edit the string please do not forget to put quotation mark (") at the start and in the end of that string.

Tested on my Omnia,QBus Rom-WM6.1 and works like a charm.

Hope this helps !

or

Here are cab installers to help everyone use SMS-Chat as default messaging without doing any reg hack above. The cabs do it for you.

Notes : The zip includes 2 cab files extension :

- MSINBOX to Vito SMS-Chat : install this to set yr sms-chat as default messaging.

- MSINBOX to TMAIL : have this installed if you want to go back to default messaging.

* Soft reset after installation.

SMS-Chat as default messaging.cab

resco contact manager working well for me, can i make the resco sms inbox as my default messaging?
Yep,you can. If you want to use the Sms program from Resco Contact Manager as the default,or even with contacts program fr Resco contact manager as well, then here's the Key you need to change:

Using registry editor to change these strings :

1./ Set sms program of Resco contact manager as default :

HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Shell>Rai>:MSINBOX. Change key labeled 1 to :RPhoneMan-sms

2./ set contacts program from Resco Contact Manager as default :

HKLM>Software>Microsoft>Shell>Rai>:MSCONTACTS. Change key labeled 1 to :RPMContacts

Hope this helps!!!!!!

I will post this in a new thread shortly after I post this.

that's a pretty long post for something pretty unrelated :P what we're trying to accomplish is using microsoft's built-in sms client over the manila sms client in sense when you push an incoming text.
that info is for VITO SMS-Chat, a 3rd party sms client

AND, when composing a text from "favorites", "contact cards", and "call history".

Basically, we want to make MS Messaging the "default text message screen" and avoid HTC messaging at all costs.

Looky post 387 middle page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...556614&page=39
Mayby you goys can try that with some success...

Meanwhile, in my limited time I was able to disable the HTC by manipulating the manilaFull.xml file, but alas to no success yet because....
I made sum error when I got too trigger happy changing the xml file, and ended up also disabling links for "people menus" in contacts.
So anyway just pointing out another direction to try.

Following up to my post above. I have created a cab that will make this process easier. There were a couple mistakes in the "app.reg" file that I have corrected. So, here are the instructions to disable the HTC Messaging Client and enable the MS Messaging Client instead:

1) Uninstall any messaging related cabs (including the Zenyee or Static cabs)
2) Disable Sense
3) Use Total Commander to Delete the "ManilaFull.xml" in the "\Windows" folder
4) Install the attached cab that corresponds to your device (GSM or CDMA)
5) Soft Reset
6) Go to "HKLM\System\Inbox\ExternalAccounts"
Rename "SMS" to "SMS.htc"
7) Soft Reset
Install Arcsoft MMS software (go here if you need it)
9) Soft Reset
10) Enable Sense

Please let me know how it works for you guys!

I'd like to give credit to fone_fanatic, dagrim1, and xwpx520 for finding this information

FYI: There are 2 bugs present in this solution. 1)The manila messaging tab will not show the proper unread SMS count. 2)The LED light notification will not go off when you receive a new SMS. Now if somebody can figure out a working solution for either of these bugs then please let me know

I did the above EXACTLY how instructed.
No changes.
Still being forced into HTC messanger.

I want to be able to use the Sense 2.5 included in the official WM 6.5 ROM for the TP2 that Sprint just released. BUT, I want to always go into "Windows Mobile Messenger" and NEVER go into the "HTC Messenger".

So, I can select a contact from "my favorites, go into "WM messaging" and then use "My Texts" to insert a message. This is the method I used on 6.1 and was able to compose and send texts with only a few quick taps on the touch screen.

Can someone please help us find a solution?

Thank you.
