ROM Upgrades on VZW TP2 - Page 2

I've been running the VZW 6.5 rom for about a month. It isn't awful, but it does have memory issues (system resources at startup go from 50% used to around 75-80% used, with no apps running).

Yeah, that's the kind of report I've been seeing in several places. "Isn't awful" is hardly a ringing endorsement...
I think I'll try the MightyROM 2.1 - it seems to meet my needs without being too bleeding edge. I want my phone to work and work smoothly, after all.

I have had my Verizon TP2 since October. The 1st thing I did before I even used it was loaded a Custom ROM. I have probably used thousands of ROMs ever since my Vogue and I have yet to Brick my device. (Knock on Wood). I have been using the energy ROM Series lately because I love the combination of WM 6.5.X and Sense 2.5. Energy ROM's have worked really well for me and I have tried almost all of them. I was using MightyROM Impact before I decided to stay with Energy, even though I still try all the new ones when they come out. I would really suggest just spending some off time and flash a bunch of ROM's you are thinking about and then decide what one you like and then set up for good. One thing that I can suggest is to whenever you switch from 1 ROM to another Flash back to a signed Verizon ROM and Har Reset then flash the Custom ROM and Hard Reset before you set your phone up the way you like. 1 other big thing that always helps with Flashing Custom ROM's is making sure your stuff is backed up all the time. I hope this helps out even though it is really long. I know how it is to be new at Flashing ROM's I remember the 1st time I flashed my Vogue.

Well, I loaded the standard MightyROM - looks and works great. I'm sure there is great fun in loading "thousands of ROMs", but I'm not sure I'm going to spend too much time swapping ROMs all the time. At the end of the day, I just want my phone to work. From what I can tell, this ROM will get me where I want to be. Great work, Mighty Mike!

Did you flash to MightyROM from VZW's 6.1, or did you update to vzw's 6.5? Reason for the question is the updated radio in vzw's 6.5. That being said, if you did flash from vzw 6.1, I would go back and update to vzw's 6.5, then reflash the custom ROM of choice.

I've been running Mighty's official 6.5 since Nov. and it's been great...only issue was when I travelled to Canada and kept getting 'voice only' warning. Still haven't found the reason, or a fix, for that.

I'm now on MightyROM project WAR which is also great (needed something new to play with seeing as official 6.5 rom was running so well!)

Lastly, did you get your sms/mms set up via arcsoft cab?

Be careful going back to the stock ROM on Verizon from a custom ROM. If you flash from MR to the Verizon 6.5 ROM you will need to call #8899 after you try to make a call and are told that Verizon can't authenticate your phone.

I found that if you flash to the Verizon 6.1 ROM and *228 your phone first and then go to Verizon 6.5 you will be able to flash to any custom ROM you want and not have to call Verizon.

I really don't want to go and reflash everything unless there is a very compelling reason to do so. What does the updated radio(s) get me?
Please don't tell me I have to go backwards when I'm making so much progress here!
As for SMS/MMS, yes, I installed the arcsoft cab and all seems to be working. In fact, everything is working fine so far.

@Physics: I flashed straight from 6.1 stock to MightyROM final...yes, I did a prl update afterwards, but no need to call Verizon for anything. All calls in and out work fine. SMS works fine. Setting up email tomorrow.

i've flashed Mighty's roms several times (for various reasons) including the updates. I typically flash vzw stock (now 6.5) prior to each custom rom flash. Yes, you will need #228 each time, and I had to #8899 only after a hard reset (button combo not clear storage). It is really no big deal, the vzw operator walks you through entering the authentication code and you're good to go (I just tell them I had to hard reset the phone and that it requires authentication). This happens while still on vzw stock rom (any version)as you want to make a call to ensure the phone part is functioning properly prior to custom rom flash.

if you're satisfied with the way it's running, no need to change. Just wanted to throw that extra info out there as it was unclear if you knew about the radio and arcsoft cab. I'm positive you'll enjoy the rom either way!!

EDIT: Updated radio is supposed to give better tower lock and reception (I believe)

Man, I'm just going to pretend that I didn't read that...
Actually, I am at the edge of everybody's network, and AT&T just absolutely sucks where I am...almost every call drops. The Verizon signal isn't great, but I have held every single incoming and outgoing call on this set so far, so I am not going to complain. If anyone gets any further confirmation on the radio performance from 6.1 to 6.5, please let me know.
