We are talking about the same WP7 right? the one made by Microsoft...I don't think they could write a "hello world" program without some kind of major bug.

PPCGeek is in the minority you are right, but so are developers. And many of the current WM developers are part of the XDA and PPCGeeks community and rely on members for testing and feedback on the betas.

It is understandable why microsoft wanted to do this but no matter how you look at it WP7 is a rushed product due to their current failures that they are trying to do ASAP while trying to get the biggest share. But by abandoning your current your loyal customers is always a bad move. Not to mention right now there are 3-4 new dumbphone OS entering the market so if MS plans to win they will have to deck out a huge amount of cash on something that may not even succeed.

microsoft is losing marketshare every year they keep winmo 6, this is the bottom line. they are making changes to keep up with the times. The things people are complaining about is what gets me? Like Salty said what do you think you'll be able to physically accomplish on winmo 6 that won't be accomplishable on wp7, probably nothing? I can think of a million positives that come from the direction they are headed. They aren't abandoning any body, as long as you can complete the same accomplishments and in 95% of most cases it will be easier to accomplish. Someone please tell me what the main argument is? is it the fact that they can't run custom ui's? thats the reason you would leave an os? is it because they will only allow certain apps that won't mess your phone up to be installed? What is the main thing people are upset about? It more then like has nothing to do with functionality of the phone, and I don't understand why that would make you run to another os'? the only advantage that android has over wp7 (because i can name tons over winmo 6) is that android will allow ui's like spb mobile shell and htc sense, but these definitely aren't the reasons winmo has been losing marketshare every year.

The new rom that came out has threaded email so i go load a new rom with threaded email, that isn't fun. I would rather have my phone download the update automatically and then load it like the droids do.

this is all i'm going to say to salty (because you are too difficult and a winmo fanboy) and kabuk, you guys are wrong, winmo doesn't care if they lose the ppcgeek community compared to how much money they will make, and the bottom line is microsoft agrees with me because obviously they're headed in that direction. All i can say is whatever company you guys plan on starting with that way of thinking you guys will not succeed.
People like saltydog just tried to look relevant on the topic. So people can maybe, think he knows something. I say iggy the dude coz he does not have a valid contribution to the topic.

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?

I actually liked what I saw in the demo. It had a totally new look to it. I will probably get one when available. Android may steal me before then though. I had the sprint Hero for a month and I really liked it. Once they get full flash support from Adobe I could see me really liking android. That was my main complaint. I use skyfire (one of my favorite wm apps) all the time to view youtube clips that friends email me. The youtube app won't play some of them, and that's when skyfire takes over. I can go to any site with it. But when I can do this on Android, I will be very tempted to go back. Also waiting for more codec support on Android.

Codec support for Android prolly is not far away. Dell Mini 5 demonstrated it. It can even output 720p. But it's not the 1st Android device to do so. ICD Vega is the first I saw. But Vega is a beast thou. It is powered by Tegra(not sure if it's Tegra2) but it is a tablet. 15.6 inch screen tablet.

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?

Since we discovered today that it does indeed have multitasking I'm on board for sure. the only thing left that i really desire from WP7 is an intuitive easy way to switch applications (like palm pre).

(i say 'only' above because I'm sure xda and ppcgeeks will still be around to give me the hacks, mods, and tweeks that i crave)

Ok now let me flip that argument around, what can WP7 do that iPhone can't? Except that WM phones uusally charged large premiums with crippled hardware. Microsoft is now enforcing superior hardware on their WP7 lines. Not to mention you gotta pay for licensing. So who is gonna dish out 500$ on a WP7 other then a business user? while they can get same thing on a $100 phone?

Unless of course microsoft somehow convinced the manufacturers and the component providers to do some crazy discounts.

this is something i've been wondering. Since wp7 will probably not be that much different from the other os', will they still charge an arm an a leg or lower prices like the droids and iphone.

Well they are gonna have to..because the minimum hardware they put on the wp7 is pretty darn high as it stands. Unless it changes by the end of 2010. The only way I can see them lower those costs is either:

a) Build their own hardware which they aren't doing

b) Help invest into the chipset company to develop factories for making the chipsets

c) Give manufacturer's a cut of either the cellphone bill or part of the money bought apps with.
