That sounds very enticing. That is one of the few areas Android is very weak in. Would've loved to be able to watch avi or mkv movies on my Hero without having to convert. Add that and flash and I would convert over to Android.

You should watch this. If this device finally hits the market, Those codec can posibly extracted and be installed on every Android out there. Well the point is, It is posible. So there is no reason to say that Android can't do it.

If you are running stock 6.1 you can get the 2016 SMS fix. No, you can't install Sense, but Sense is not part of the OS. It's not Microsoft's fault that HTC doesn't make it available. you CAN install SPB Mobile Shell though. And if SPB can do it without requireing that it be cooked into a ROM, HTC could too if they wanted.

By the way- just because you do it over the air doesn't mean you aren't flashing a ROM. If you are going from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1, that is the same thing as flashing a WinMo ROM. WinMo may require you to connect to a computer, and Android may do it over the air, but it is doing the same thing.

I am also not a fan of over the air upgrades. I prefer to be in control of when and how my device gets upgraded. If there is some "feature" in an upgrade that I don't want (for example- Apple bricking jailbroken iPhones with "upgrades") then I want to be able to skip that upgrade.

That was incredible! Looks like an amazing device. I wish I could see a live demo of windows phone 7. Because windows really can do everything that others phones are trying to figure out how to do. I haven't found anything that I wanted to do that wm couldn't do or wasn't just a program away from being able to do.

b) Help invest into the chipset company to develop factories for making the chipsets

c) Give manufacturer's a cut of either the cellphone bill or part of the money bought apps with.
According to this wp7 series will have to be higher in price or someone is going to eat it and I don't think it will be the companies

Well that is understandable but according to his quote:

Quote:
According to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer:

"I think there's something clean and simple and easy to understand about our model. We build something, we sell that thing ... I think it's not only in our best interests, but it's a simple model that's easy for developers, handset manufacturers, and our operator partners to deal with, to understand, and to build from."
But where would their "appstore" fit in? I am sure they are gonna charge premiums for the software downloaded as well are they not?

Obviously the manufacturer isn't gonna take the costs, if anything the carrier might. But that still would not justify th fact that even android can run on a lower hardware device while MS requires topend atm. So unless microsoft splits appstore revenue with the manufacturers/carrier I don't see it favoring their ecosystem, mostly in this economy.

Cool Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?

[QUOTE=kidwolf908;1570095]Hate it.

The zune interface is effective and simplistic for a media player, but it is not detailed enough for a smartphone. In my opinion, WM7 looks like a dumb-phone with an S-Class UI or something similar.

It's incredibly obvious who MS is competing with and that is such a turn-off for me. If I wanted an IPhone, I would buy one. Microsoft has completely lost my loyalty with this latest iteration.

I like my phone to be customizable in every way so that I can make it my own.

I like my phone to be able to have multiple apps open at once.

I like my phone to be able to run an app developed by ANYONE.

I like my phone to allow me more control over it's functions.

I like my phone NOT TO HAVE APP HEADER TEXT CUT OFF THE SCREEN.

Everyone can call it "innovative" all they want, but to me they can keep it and I'll gladly jump to Android.[/QUOTE

WELL SAID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO THE MONKEYS @ MS PAY NO ATTENTION TO THEIR CORE AUDIENCE??? I JUST WISH THAT HTC WOULD STOP PLAYING AROUND & COME OUT WITH THEIR OWN OS...THEY UNDERSTAND WHAT WE WANT & WHAT WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.

AS FOR NOW MICROSOFT...KISS MY ASS!

HTC does know what we want but then they would cripple it a lot then release less crippled versions of the same thing over 3 years >.>

And as stated above Microsoft doesn't care about their core audience anymore...they are abandoning us in favor of more $$$. Don't forget this, microsoft makes around 5-25$ per OS sale, regardless the handset. The wider the audience, more money for them.

I am guessing quite a few people who want customization will swap to android. So if microsoft fails to get wp7 to break into the market, they will have no exit strategy and be dead as far as handsets are concerned.

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?

No WM6.5 will be upgraded to WP7. Does not meet the requirements. Only Qualcomm chipsets will be used. SO no Tegra or Tegra2. Skinning is not allowed. WOW, it just keeps getting better.

However, They will contunue to sell and support WM6.5 as long as there is a demand for it. But the WM6.5 journey ends there. Oh well,Good luck to MS for the direction they are taking. I will continue to support, and Master them and Apple, Google and Palm. That is a lot of knowledge for me. I am ready for the challenge. Bring it On!

Re: What do you think of Windows Phone 7?

*sigh* Microsoft, you have broken my heart. First Palm, now you.

At least they're still gonna support the real WinMo. I guess thats all I could ask for in this abortion of a situation.
