Re: New Slingplayer
is there anyway to get the quality on the touch pro 2 a bit higher?
I know I read on the touch u can get better quality if u put some codec files in the slingplayer folder or something.....does that work with the TP2? |

I tried every single one of those leaked SB versions, new super duper codecs etc etc etc & it never made one hair of quality difference. The ONLY I have even seen noticeably increase SB quality is to improve your DL/Upload speed from your local LAN. ~John |

Re: New Slingplayer
Personally, I'm not all that thrilled with this version and I'm temped to go back to 1.6. They've eliminated portrait mode, eliminated the ability to see statistics and unless I'm missing something, they have eliminated the advanced video settings to allow people to get the best results. All I see is low or hi quality picture settings. Plus it seems like the picture is softer than previous. They seem to have sacrificed detail to improve the frame rate. Disappointing.
**EDIT** Yea John, it seems so. They have really dumbed this version down. Last edited by Chuck_IV; 01-27-2010 at 08:40 AM. |

I'm definitely gonna let them know about it. **EDIT** I don't see any settings file in the program directory either, so it looks like they have taken out pretty much all of the adjustments, other than HI/LO. **EDIT2** Oh yea, one other thing, this version DOES work OK on WM 6.5.x. All the options seem accessible. The only issu I see is there is no way to shut the program down, other than to use the task manager to force it to shut down. There's no "exit" option within the software. Last edited by Chuck_IV; 01-27-2010 at 09:50 AM. |

Re: New Slingplayer
OK, after using it last night & all morning today I am a whole lot happier with it.
I definitely do get full screen display from any high-def channel using my Slingbox Pro. I was p!ssed about no portrait option as I had been using that a lot, but the reason I was using it was that a lot of the time the picture using landscape was almost unwatchable. Switching to portrait gave a dramatically better picture & also allowed the FPS to be displayed so you could see that the FPS was very low (2 FPS at times) & that explained the low image quality. Now, with this new version the landscape image is fine (the best I've ever seen) & also full screen. I have a Pro-Clip bracket in my truck that automatically connects the video & audio out from the phone to my 7" dbl din in-dash DVD/NAV screen & my kick @ss stereo. This morning, I dropped my Wife at work (an 18 mile drive) & we had the SB on the whole time displaying a high-def local channel. The picture was almost perfect the whole way which it has never done before & we've made this exact same drive hundreds of times. There is one spot during the drive where it almost always cuts in/out for a minute & sometimes drops the connection totally. Today, it gave just a tiny glitch in that spot & kept on playing just fine. Now, if I could just get the favorites function to work correctly, I would be really happy with the new version. I was mad that it wouldn't display the FPS, but if it continues to work this well I don't really care what the FPS are...... The new version is pretty much identical to the iphone/ipod version (I have had it for a while in my ipod touch), but the iphone won't allow Sling use with the data connection so if you don't have a WiFi connection you're screwed. ~John EDIT: I am running the Dec 18th NRG Dusk ROM (sense 2.5/WM 6.5) Last edited by jmorton10; 01-27-2010 at 10:19 AM. |
