Re: Why don't Registry edits "stick"?

If anyone's interested, there's a way to edit/see hidden running programs that don't show up int he task manager (such as Opera, for instance):

HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\ExclusiveList\System

That registry lists all the programs that will run, hidden in the background.

I deleted the Opera9.exe, so I can see when Opera is running in the background, and kill it when I need to via the stock programs manager... since there are times where I want Opera to hold a particular web bage or stay running while I work on somthing else, etc.

Maybe clues to the suspected hidden program is in there somewhere?

I installed the FDcSoft Task Manager and shut down the CM Guardian program. I haven't had any issues with registry edits not working since then. I should say, however, that I do not use the Dynamic Memory Proxy, since I don't feel like memory fluctuating between 55-75% over the course of the day under moderate use is too darn bad. I might try the edit manually, just to see if it sticks after a reset, and I'll report back.

Re: Why don't Registry edits "stick"?

msh441, have you been able to get the data connection to stay off by any chance?

If you haven’t tried that one may I beg of you to try it for me as I just spent the whole day yesterday doing my first flash with a MightyMikes 6.5 ROM and trying to keep it off but to no avail could I get it to stick so I then had to reinstall 6.1 and spent the whole day today rebuilding my system.

But as I didn’t try the FDcSoft Task Manager so now I wish I had but to do all of that again just to try would be a nightmare.

If you don’t know the Reg location I could give it to you but also a real easy way to do this would be to use the NoData program here http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/attachment...2&d=1263679674, which I got from a guy yesterday and tried it and it worked fine plus I’m currently using it on my 6.1 setup now without issues.

Basically you just run it, use it to disable your connections, possibly double check to be sure that data switch is off in your WM Comm Manager menu, soft reset and see if the connection stays disabled in NoData and the Comm Manager as well as by with no WiFi or Bluetooth on, being able to get any data info from places such as your browser or e-mail or Quick GPS and stuff like that.

If you could try this for me I would be eternally grateful as it would be a real nightmare for me to go through all that again only to fine out even with the FDcSoft Task Manager I still could not get that to happen.

Thanks a bunch.

p.s., if you care to read about it, you can read the thread on my attempts here: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=106600

Re: Why don't Registry edits "stick"?

Is there something like msconfig from xp that runs on wm. I am trying to figure out what is causing the registry entries reverting back? Something is loading at startup and is causing the problems.

Thanks for posting this thread up! I was just about to create a new but I figured a quick search would be less annoying!

Well unfortunately nobody has found a solution yet. I can't figure it out for the life of me.

Re: Why don't Registry edits "stick"?

I make no promises with this fix. I know it fixes the entry not staying issues but I do not know what other things it might effect. I overwrote the ResProxy.dll with a blank text file renamed the same. This might help but also hurt so let me and others know of any problems.
