I know nobody wants to "pay" but I've had good luck with the Sprint Navigation.

TomTom7 or iGo8
I prefer iGo8 because you can get it to work with text to speech street names. Instead of "turn right, followed by keep left" it says "take exit 35c onto highway 62 east." However TomTom has some other advantages.
Read the iGo8 thread in this forum.
Both utilize "offline" maps saved on your storage card. Typical map size is 2GB, I have TomTom7 and iGo8 installed, wtih sepearte maps.

+1 for Garmin XT.
I had both garmin and tomtom installed and prefer Garmin over TomTom now.
I had TomTom on old 6700 phone for 2yrs and got use to some of its crappyness.
Once iu got the TP2 i tried out garmin....and have never looked back.
