Thats a bit of a curve ball...even if they send you on demand full 1080p it will be using your cable tv connection and not your internet connection. While it is the same connection in the end run, it is a reserved one for the provider and not part of your 15mbps/5mbps connection. That said it is also internal traffic, aka your provider is not paying bandwidth costs for that 1080p.

Not true at all. The very definition of On Demand means it is delivered over the net. That's why you can't even get Directv On Demand unless the receiver has an internet connection. And yes, On Demand traffic absolutely counts against your internet connection. In fact, at least around here- you can't even get On Demand from the local cable company unless you have their internet package too.

No matter though- Directv and Dish Network are definitely, without question, using your internet to deliver On Demand. Your receiver has to be connected to your broadband connection (which is not provided by them).

The talk was originally about cable..not satellite...either way, the traffic is internal and not external, aka they don't have to pay bandwidth costs...it'll be like saying i got wifi and I transfer 3tb a month..

It doesn't matter. You are downloading from the internet. If you weren't, then they wouldn't require an internet connection to do it. Yes, you are downloading form one of their servers, but you are still downloading over the internet.

Either way, I think the point has been made- it's not far fetched at all for a family to use 1, 2, or even 3 TB of data in a month, while only doing normal things. The people saying that was abuse or whatever were only considering a single person's use, not a family's.

So is this a thread about the Sprint upgrade or a pissing match?

The Sprint upgrade is old news. They already announced it would be sometime in Q1 2010. What else is there to discuss?

Ahm..that may have to do with the features included in the hardware. It could also be a marketing thing for them to make more money...

More correctly, the on demand would be called the intranet..intranet traffic is not the same thing as internet traffic.

Look man, you are wrong. Just drop it already. It is NOT an intranet. It is downloading over the internet. You just happen to be getting that internet access from the same company.

Do you think email's from Comcast don't count towards your storage limit in your inbox too? Give me a break.

Just to shut you up about this here is some proof:
http://tech.blorge.com/Structure:%20...ble-tv-online/

Quote:
Comcast has confirmed that viewing its online On Demand service will count towards a monthly 250GB downloading limit for Comcast internet providers.
Also please note this little tidbit which pretty much confirms it CAN'T be the way you keep speculating:
Quote:
However, there’s still a risk that if firms see themselves as competitors rather than providers, they might use download limits as a way of promoting their content. Business Insider speculates that Internet providers might exempt their own content from download limits, or even impose extra charges for viewing content from other providers. That would also raise legal questions over whether such policies breached net neutrality principles.
So please, you have been wrong all throughout this, just let it go already. Even if you were correct (which is not even a question anymore, you have been totally proven wrong) but even if you were correct, there is still the whole Dish Network and Directv using OTHER providers' broadband to provide On Demand. So let it go already.
