It wouldn't be hard at all if you watch a lot of netflix or a lot of on demand tv.

Say your living room, your bedroom, and each of your 2 or 3 teenagers bedrooms, all have a directv receiver that does On Demand, and all of them have netflix boxes on the tv too. it would not be hard at all to hit over a TB (or 3). And that is becoming more and more common. If you guys can't imagine anyone hitting those download levels in a month, you better get with the times, lol.

Re: Is there a official 6.5 update for touch pro 2 for sprint

Its math time again...

lets say you are using verizon fios which is 15mps/5mbps..this is the standard one as some go to 50mbps/20mbps. My optimum goes 30mbps/5mbps.

To do 3tb in a month you would need to do 1tb every 10 days and 100gb a day (ok 102.4gb a day but lets not be picky)

In hour that will be 4.16666 gb an hour and 0.0694gb a min(69mb a min) and (1.15mb a sec)

15mbps=1.875 megaBYTES a sec
+
5mbps=0.625 megaBYTES a sec
----------------------------
That will give you a total of 2.5megaBYTES a sec speed.

So to reach 3tb a month you would need to stream a minimum of 12 hours a day upload and download at max on a regular verizon fios.

So 3tb like a bit of a stretch...unless you got a 100mbps connection from optimum/verizon that came out recently.

(In my case I do 1 tb a month which seems to make sense according to the calculation if using a 30mbps/5mbps connection)

Your calculations seem extreme for a single man. But for a family of 6 or 8 or something like that, it's not far fetched at all. Again- On Demand and Netflix are the ONLY thing some people watch these days. I hear about people on an almost daily basis who tell me they only watch On Demand programming and stream Netflix. I think we're probably not too far away from all premium tv being IP based. And when you're talking about HD video and surround sound, that's a lot of data getting transferred. Not to mention more and more people are using VOIP phone services and security cameras streamed online.

Put it like this- how much data does your DVR hold- a few hundred gigs? Now, is there anyone out there who doesn't think they could fill it up in a month? Imagine if all you watched was On Demand and Netflix progamming- and you have 4 or 5 others in the house, each with their own receiver, and they mostly watched On Demand and Netflix too. That data would add up pretty quick...

My calculations are showing that 3tb in a month is exterme, much less 4tb. 1tb is believable but to achieve 3tb would require you to do MAX upload and Download for 12hrs a day. In a more realistic world to watch a movie at around 200mb/20min would be around 720p using h264 encode. So thats 10mb/min. Even if 8 people watch, that will be 80mb/min. So to reach the 3tb you will need 8 people to watch 12 hours of video a day. still a bit extreme, no?

+1... Not many people on Earth would be pulling anywhere 3-4 Tb.. That's extreme for TV watching, or any activity really.

I'm not following your math. Lets look at it like this:

3 TB per month - 1 TB every 10 days. So 1000 GB / 10 days = 100 GB per day. 100 GB / 12 hours = 8.3 GB per hour. 8.3 GB * 1024 = 8499.2 MB per hour. 8499.2 / 60 = 141.7 MB per minute. 141.7 MB per minute / 8 people = 17.7 MB per minute each, for 12 hours per day.

According to this site, which is pretty reputable:
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/mediagat...iew-820-5.html
It takes 65.2 MB per minute to stream 1080p in H.264-HD. They actually streamed it at 124.8 MB per minute in their test, but we'll go at the lower 65.2 MB per minute calculation for the purpose of my results. Just know that it could actually be significantly higher than that. So that (at the lower 65.2MB per minute) is almost 4 times as much as the 17.7 MB per minute needed to hit the 3 TB.

So in a nutshell, if you have 8 people, and each of them watches 1080p video for 4 hours per day, at 65.2 MB per minute each- you will hit well over 3 TB per month.

I don't think 4 hours each is a stretch at all. So again- your calculations do seem extreme for a single man or woman, but they are not far fetched at all for a typical family who decided to go On Demand and Netflix instead of live tv and The Movie Channel.

Re: Is there a official 6.5 update for touch pro 2 for sprint

To my understanding, netflix streams at 720p, not 1080p.

At 65.2 MB/min, any streaming company would go broke atm. Not only that, if you have a 15mbps/5mbps connection, it would use up all your bandwidth and other people wont be able to watch at same time.

I just did a little google and my estimate was around on the spot of what netflix streams at per min.

And yes..we probably should get back on topic...what was the topic again? lol..oh yes wm6.5 for sprint...probably before end of january...or when pigs fly, whichever is first.

Netflix may stream at 720p, but every cable and satelite provider out there has 1080p on demand these days...

And you wouldn't even need everyone doing it at the same time. 4 hours each, 8 people. So only a couple of them would have to download at the same time.
