Maybe I'll just stick with the TP2 for the sole reason that the support in this thread is fantastic. Tons of good, informative responses in just a few minutes!

You guys mentioned something about SERO and Sling... I'm a total noob to the HTC front so I have to ask, what are these?

Sling = google slingbox and sling mobile.

SERO=old sprint employee referal program that had very good monthly price. One I got has 500 anytime min, free nights & weekends, unlimited data, text, and pics for 30 bucks a month. After 7 dollar insurance, the monthly fee is about 44 bucks a month after taxes and fees. Since this plan is old, not all sprint PDA phones will work.

How is RAM usage, as well as speed overall with the TP2? I played with a relative's Droid and it certainly was pretty quick and smooth. But since I'm Verizon, I can't see a TP2 in person since they don't carry them in stores (yet). I did mess with the Tilt at an AT&T store just to ge ta feel for it, but store demos are always so completely pwned by idiot users in the stores (let alone the fact that they aren't on a snappy custom ROM) that I couldn't tell how speedy it was

Speed will depend on roms and tweaks you have. I personally like JD's rom since it's pretty much made for sprint users.. but I have a feeling droid would be more smooth operator on the OS part since the OS is well taken care of unlike all step child WM devices.

Ram usage will also depend on which rom you use, but HTC sense UI is a total memory hog, and the more memory it uses, the more smoother it runs IMO.

I can only suggest you to use the 30 day return policy and try out both. I personally dig Droid, but I'm not a fan of paying more than what I'm paying for sprint since I already have money wasted on a iphone 3g for my wife.

Would it be safe to say, then, that I should get a TP2 for the time being and then maybe switch over to Android next year once it's more developed?

My understanding is Droid has been rooted (kinda like unlocked) and that is required to run WifiRouter like app. If a WifiRouter app does not exist it will soon.

You do realize he's already on VZW so SERO doesn't apply, right?

Anyways. I have been looking at android phones as I continue to watch WM slowly die, but they still have a ways to go. I'll give you the same list I gave in another post as to killer features that the TP2 has that may be hard to give up:

-Standalone GPS app w/TTS (works when network doesn't)
-Full Media Playback (unconverted xvid movies and such)
-Logmein support

There may be others, but those are the most prevalent to me. Especially the second one. If any of those ring a bell, you may want to pass on the Droid for now.

I use IGO8 which is standalone, a must have for me. If Android doesn't offer this, then it's a done deal for me to go with the TP2. Although doesn't the Droid have some form of turn-by-turn with voice built right into it?

Also, media doesn't matter to me as much since I also have an ipod touch which I use for all media playback.

I would also add wireless tethering to your list since, after much looking, I can't find an Android app that fully does this

You definitely don't want the Droid if you go into fringe coverage areas. I have a friend that got the Droid. She lives in a rural marginal coverage area. My TP2 works great out there, but the Droid constantly dropped and missed calls.

She swapped it out for a Droid Eris and doesn't have the missed/dropped calls issue any more. It's probably the difference between a good HTC phone and a mediocre Motorola one. Of course, with the Eris, no hardware keyboard, yadda, yadda, yadda.
