Re: Help Guys. I Need A Pep-Talk

You definitely don't want the Droid if you go into fringe coverage areas. I have a friend that got the Droid. She lives in a rural marginal coverage area. My TP2 works great out there, but the Droid constantly dropped and missed calls.

She swapped it out for a Droid Eris and doesn't have the missed/dropped calls issue any more. It's probably the difference between a good HTC phone and a mediocre Motorola one. Of course, with the Eris, no hardware keyboard, yadda, yadda, yadda.

It might be too late, but if she can swap it out for an Eris, I'd do that. See my post above.

Re: Help Guys. I Need A Pep-Talk

I wanted the Hero bad after reading about the android OS. Sprint would not upgrade me to it comming from the TP1 no matter what. So my plan was to get the TP2 and sell it to buy the Hero. After one day with the TP2 and one day with my coworkers Hero I was soooo glad I got the TP2. This phone works better than any I have tried so far. I don't even look at what is comming out next anymore. Android will be the next step for me, but I want to give it alot more time.

Hate to sound like a fanboy but the TP2 is the first phone I've really liked since my Star Tac....

Re: Help Guys. I Need A Pep-Talk

From what I can see it doesn't look like you posted a similar question in the Droid forum. Curious why not??? I know you said you've seen reviews where they bash the TP2...but you're always going to get that. Go to the TP forum and ask if you should upgrade to a TP2 and see what happens

Anyway, it may be worth posting the same questions / issues there. You may get a different set of answers over there and/or a different perspective compared to what you'll get in this forum

Re: Help Guys. I Need A Pep-Talk

google "sling player mobile". it is the greatest thing ever. you can get a slingbox off craigslist for $50-100. mine was $50. I also use it on the laptop.. i do hear march for android release of Slingplayer.

I still like the TP2 best out of all phones availible. Its solid. I just wish the camera was better...i must have said that for the last 3 HTC phones I have had. Damn you HTC with your weak cameras!

Anyways. I have been looking at android phones as I continue to watch WM slowly die, but they still have a ways to go. I'll give you the same list I gave in another post as to killer features that the TP2 has that may be hard to give up:

-Standalone GPS app w/TTS (works when network doesn't)
-Full Media Playback (unconverted xvid movies and such)
-Logmein support

There may be others, but those are the most prevalent to me. Especially the second one. If any of those ring a bell, you may want to pass on the Droid for now.
Google Navigation can cache all the maps along a route so you don't need a network. You can also use your Voice to Navigate somewhere. Logmein is unique to you and like you said everything will get resolved eventually. As far as movie playback my co-worker is into that and doesn't seem to have any issue with playing his stolen bittorrent movies on it.

Logmein is not unique to me, but it certainly doesn't apply to everyone. As far as your co-worker, he may be able to play movies, but he most likely has to convert them first. For some this isn't a big deal, for others it is a deal breaker. I was just giving a list of possible reasons that the Droid may not work. To each his own.
