Then there are the FEW that want to make thier clients more at ease with with a FULL Tech support experience and go into futher reseach about thier products. I have called my tech support on several occasions and have taught them a few things about thier phones. So, in defence of Yay4Juggs, a lot of techs don`t their a$$ from thier elbow, but in defence of c0011j, the generalization of the comment was intruding! But, in the end, you are both right! IMO

Not all techs are stupid and some of them are!

As for the OP`s question. Yes, if the store has the means to do it, they can and will reflash the stock ROM to your device. But, they will more than likely send for a swap or tell you to order a swap to save them the hassle!
Some of the sprint tech's do know what they're doing, as I am one of them. unfortunately, not all of them do know how to do their job as well as they should. I do keep a copy of the OEM ROM at the store, and all my techs know how to flash someone's phone to stock and/or to a custom ROM. It's a matter of professional pride with me. But then again, there are some technicians that do not know how to change the setting on the task manager to "close app by clicking x". lol.

I tend to want to learn what causes issues, and how to fix them, rather than just say, oh well, i don't know that, i'll pretend it doesn't exist. lol. I laugh when tech support tries to explain to me how to program a device by "Pressing ##", then reads off the lock code by a script. lol.

LOL so very true. We have 5 techs at my store, three of which use blackberrys. They have a limited knowledge of WM but are very good with blackberry.

I personally worked in Tech Support for over 4 years so I know how "dumb" most of them can be. But there are a handful of good ones out there and the same is true for store techs. They are just hard to find. Especially here in Oklahoma where we only have TWO service and repair locations in the entire state...

Half the time it isn't the techs fault. It comes down to the training. Imagine how many handhelds there are to learn...

And if you are on these forums you most likely know quite a bit about your device, it's difficult to learn every aspect of all phones. And some are just worse at finding the way to resolve the issue...

LOL Sorry.

Anyway, it is possible that they have a shipped ROM that they could have flashed to the phone. More than likely, however, they just hard reset the phone and gave it back to you. I'm sure if there was a shipped stock ROM that was available, it would have been either leaked or something to someone here on the interwebz.

Re: can a store reflash an original rom?

I quit going to the Sprint Store for ANY tech support. I even hesistate calling tech support over the phone. I have received MORE tech support from PPCGeeks collectively than I ever did from Sprint!!!

Case in point, when I walked into one of the Sprint store with my TP2 a couple of weeks after receiving it in the mail...the couple of "techies" looked at it in awe...almost as if they have never seen one before.

From what I gather is that a handful of reps actually receive hands on training on ANY new devices that were coming out. And most of that training is pretty much user manual stuff. (aside from the "##" codes to delve deeper into the device) but otherwise what they know is pretty much vanilla compared to the ben and jerry flavored knowledge that MOST of us here know...

What most folks here know...is FAR deeper than most Sprint employees are trained to know. So for a PPCGeeker (with some time under their belt) to look at a Sprint Techie can safely assume that the Geeker knows more. For the store to flash the stock ROM again...wouldn't they have to HSPL the device first?? Or they do so with a signed copy of the ROM and won't need the device to be HSPL?

I dont blame you there. They are trained a little bit on everything, Not a whole lot in one particular area.

Most of them probably hadn't. The TP2 was available online almost a month before most stores even got them in stock to be able to sell.

Techs in the store arent s/w programmers, the only tools they are given are a couple of screw drivers and info on how to hard reset devices, and maybe a few spare parts. If an issue cant be fixed with a hard reset its much easier to just grab a phone off of the shelf and replace it. Its also faster when you have a line of people waiting to have their phones fixed.

No they dont need the HSPL. They just use the Signed copy of the ROM
