Is Sprint still giving out refur'ed MOGULs?

i was told on the phone today by a rep that the insurance company is still replacing with refurbished moguls...

absolutely unfrickenbelievable. i tried the online advanced replacement yesterday afternoon, it offered me a refurb mogul.

i spent half hour on the phone yesterday with asurion and utstar. couldnt get a replacement tp to save my life. couldnt even get a new mogul replacement under warranty, only the option to mail it to manufacturer and wait two weeks for them to fix it, or pay $50 and get a refurb mogul.

then i spent 2 entire hours on sprint chat with two different csr, neither of which did ANYTHING to help me. i was told about 7 times to call asurion, despite telling them repeatedly that asurion told me they wont replace it if its under warranty. told several more times to contact the manufacturer even though the manufacturer had already told me i could only mail it in and wait for a repair. was given the manufacturers phone number twice, wrong number both times (goes to a container shipping company, apparently it has for years and the shipping company was nice enough to give me the correct number for utstar).

was also told there was a repair center 4 miles away, but i told them they only do nextel phones (i live in an "affiliate" area, they cant do both nextel and sprint from same store here). so instead was told to spent 1 1/2 hours on the road to drive to the repair store down in flint, the 6th highest murder capital in the country. but i already called flint, they dont have moguls in stock and wont give me a tp anyway.

the final option i was given: to pay full price for a new phone. !! i paid sprint $400 for my mogul 10 months ago, its defective and still under warranty. i pay $7 a month for tep. i am NOT paying them full price for a new phone.

then after all this frustration, i get home to find in the mail a letter from asurion that the deductible on my mogul is doubling as of april.

so i arrive at work today (slow season, i dont have anything else to do) prepared to do battle again with sprint. check the ppcgeeks forum and see people saying they are getting tps from the advanced replacement. so i go through the advanced exchange real fast hoping they still have no moguls.

voila! 2 minutes online and tp arriving in 2-3 days, and $0 charge because i have tep and am still under warranty.

i am really hating sprint right now, but really loving you ppcgeekers =) thank you!

Sprint are back ordered for refurbished moguls so they are replacing them with Touch Pros ..got mine coming tomorrow

Just processed my request not too long ago and was offered a touch pro kit as my replacement using the online advance replacement system that was posted earlier. w000000t!!! Thank you all.

Anyways i saw this about a month too late; when moguls were back in stock.
So i've been trying to make the best out of the situation with M2D.

But there wasnt enough RAM for M2D + Opera Mobile so i've recently donated to No2Chem and flashed to nueRom.

NUEROM is the best next thing to getting the touch pro. It gives you sufficient memory (about 31MB free at boot)

Just try it and hold out for a while until I burn down all the sprint warehouses with Moguls......thus decreasing supply

I must say this is really disturbing, the mogul never was capable of running wm properly, no device with only 64mb ram was. Refurbs are a total complete joke, they need to pull that out of the insurance contracts, and commit to replacing with brand new units only.

The way they inspect, or rather don't inspect refurbs before approving them for such use is a complete scam. If they are really bumping the deductible up to $100, they really ought to replace strictly with brand new units.

i am on my 6th mogul in 9 months
every refurb i get is crap
twice i didn't even get to leave the store with it
no matter how much i complain they will not send me a new one or even upgrade me.
i even told them that my contract was up soon (it is now) and was thinking of leaving them
the manager herself would not even offer me a piece of gum to get me to stay with sprint

even funnier is that one of the reps told me that just last week they were upgrading all moguls that came in needing repairs to touch pros

My timing on this was terrible. My Mogul crapped out before Xmas and was on backorder with no expected fulfilment date. While I waited I bought a TP off of craigslist and I had mixed feelings about it. (missed the mogul's buttons). Eventually, it was replaced with a refurb Jan 9th. It arrived and I found it had a camera problem. Asurion couldn't give me a date that they would be replacing it since they were backordered - and wouldn't give me a TP either. Since I was < 30 days of having it activated I also didn't qualify for that self-service replacement page where everyone was thrilled to be sent TPs. Instead, I took it to a repair center and they fixed the camera.
I have still been carrying the mogul instead of the TP since. It's a tough little phone - tougher than the TP IMHO.
