A patch is being worked on by Verizon to fix this issue.

FYI-

must be only some accounts are flagged (or not flagged).

I literally just did a hard reset and no funny calls needed. Just reprogram like new and it was fine.

I have a 7 line small business account if that helps put the peices together.

to be honest though I would PREFER such a feature.

I'm a long time Palm OS Treo user and you can hard reset those all day and night and it doens't touch the phone side of things. I'm a little uneasy that a hard reset wipes the phone. Means settings a phone password means nothing- someone can hard reset your phone and wipe the password right off it. With the palms you can set a phone password and when you hard reset it's still there so the phone has limited use to a criminal. This way they hard reset and they're right in- very easy.

I'd prefer someone check on the rare occcasions the phone needs to get hard reset so it can't be used again easily. I'd almost call that a security feature. For those that done care maybe they could make it an option on the account like the PIN's needed to port numbers.

maybe it's something large company's get put on the account to protect their assets something more?

Patch Coming?

I had the same issue and when I talked to tech support they told me that this is a problem with the phone and that Verizon was working with HTC on a ROM update which she said would be out in about 30 days.

Let's hope the update includes other upgrades as well!

does appear to be a BUG and not some purposeful thing on their end. After last nights hard reset i decided to do it once more and stop the entended rom form installing befor e i set the phone up how i want. So i did a second hard reset today.

Reporgrammed the phone and that went fine.

but after all calls gave me the 'cant authenticate' recording and i had to call in. The lady i spoke with was somewhat perplexed- you mumbled something about being in on system but not the other. So she reset something on her and then had me shut the phone on and off and do another *228 program. and that fixed everything up just fine.

So seems maybe random. Or maybe you can get one hard reset without the bug showing up but after that it happens.

This happened once for me when I initially got my phone .. .tried to install the VC_FIx cab thinking that voice command would install and work like on my old apache. anyway ... ive hardrest using both the the hardkey way and the cleartemp way since then ... even installed the Olipro bootloader patch (Hard_SPL) and my phone has not required a call to VZW ... at all.

The I've hard reset my phone 3 times. The first time, I had to call in, every time after I just had to dial *228 and press option 1 to program.
