Actually I had a mogul come through my store a week and a half ago with this same issue. If the store you go to has a decent tech he'll fix your phone for free and send you on our merry way. (All I had to do was take a toothpick and bend the pin back for my customer. Took a whole two seconds out of my day.)
Insurance is always a good idea. It's worth the couple extra bucks a month to save you from headaches like this.

Yeah, only problem is that I'm a decent tech myself. Not for Sprint, but I do this kind of work for a living. I already fixed it the first time it happened and it was ok for a little while, but it happened again and I didn't realize it until the pin was pushed all the way to the back. I don't see anything getting it out of there now. It's going to need a new mini-usb connector now, and hell, if I had one of those or knew where to get one that was right, I'd probably do that myself too, however I'd rather just get Sprint to replace it if they will. Plus, I wouldn't want to mention that to them because then they'd definitely take the cop out answer and say it was an unauthorized repair or something and now they won't fix it.
I've had a bunch of phones in the past and never had insurance and never had a problem, it's just this phone that constantly gives problems, unfortunately this time it actually is hardware and needs repair. I have a feeling I'm going to be screwed here. |

If you can't see a possible way to fixing it, then most likely a tech wouldn't be able to. Your best bet is to take it in and have the tech look at it. It'll probably be a repair 55, but don't quote me on that (they'll give you a refurbished handset). :-/ Or you can ask them about getting a loaner phone while you send your phone back to HTC to have it replaced for free. (If you're not wanting to fork out cash the best bet is to send it back to HTC)

My brother has a Mogul as well and had this problem happen to him. He has TEP and they just issued him a new phone(although it took a couple of days).

I have Alltel and the same thing happened to me. I went to the store and they are sending a replacement so I can send mine in to get looked at. They told me if they determined it was physical damage I would be stuck either filing insurance or buying a new one outright. I've only had the phone for two months and I'm very careful, never had a problem with any other phone. Do any of you think it has to do with the type of connection, i.e. 11 pin?

Either way, I stupidly forgot that I know someone who works for Sprint, haha. I have an advance exchange on it's way and he requested a new one rather than refurb. |

The center plastic piece broke on my USB port, and I took it to a local repair shop. They said I have to file it with Assurion. I was out $50, but at least they sent me a new phone with all new accessories. I was able to keep all the accessories and send them just my old phone. The connector on my new phone is already giving me some problems, so I've concluded that the USB connector on the Mogul is of extremely poor quality.
