Ya...dammit...had it lock up three times in a couple hours from roaming. I think I may have reached the end of my rope with this $600 turd.

Why do we have two 2.17 ROM topics?

As people have written over in the other topic, flashing the 1.40 radio ROM seems to fix the roaming problem, which is the biggest problem reported so far with 2.17. It's not hard to do --- just run the unlocker then download and run the radio upgrader. Instructions in the thread:

Why not?

Yeah, flash this system and this radio on odd numbered days when the moon is full while sitting on your left hand and holding a silver scepter in your right..screw that. I seriously have better things to do than continuously flash this piece of crap with some combination of junk in the hopes it might not freeze or some component won't break or whatever. I couldn't care less about custom roms and registry hacking and what version of what doesn't break and all the rest of that crap. That's not why I bought a pda. I want a pda phone I can trust to work as advertised, period. I wouldn't trust this piece of junk to hold papers down on my desk. If Sprint can't produce a pda I can actually trust to work when I need it to work, then there are a million other services who can. I don't own stock in Sprint, what do I care about them?

I'm wondedring if changing only the radio to 1.40 will effect the internet speed which is greatly improved with the new 2.17 rom.

Well so far...

Used this ROM for two days, stock install with and without Sprint bloatware ans with both radio versions. The issues I have had with the 2.17 ROM are as follows:
  1. Locks up roaming (I live in NYC plenty of Sprint and other carriers with strong signals.) This happens with the 1.40 radio version as well.
  2. Does not work with bluetooth Motorola H700 at all, pairs but can't answer in coming calls, very annoying!
  3. Random lock-ups about three in a 24 hour period.
  4. Alarms still don't work.
  5. Text (sms) messages lost after a soft reset (seems like not a big deal but I use this for work, some were important!)
  6. Memory leak still there.
Guess what, after all this I flashed back to 2.09 with radio 1.32, got PRL update from Srint 60611 is the latest and they push it directly to the phone for you call*2 and ask that simple.

So far no lock ups and well bluetooth still does not work and neither do the alarms but at least it's stable. IMHO 2.17 is crap don't waste your time. Sprint really has to get it together with this one because this is annoying to say the least!

@ divedr:

my motorola h700 works perfectly, so there may be something on your end, possibly a bad flash or something. i do see texts being lost after a soft reset, but only if u do it like right after, and u do it while the texting app is running, if u turn it off and then soft reset, the messages seem to remain.
