Both Sprint and HTC have begun testing the new software and are targeting to make it available for download by the end of November. Once fully tested the download will be made available at: http://www.america.htc.com/support/m...downloads.html

As a short-term solution, customers who downloaded the ROM version 2.16 should download the previous ROM version 2.09.651.3 available at the link above. This will restore previous functionality to the device until a new version is complete.

Additionally, HTC is currently developing a separate ROM update which enables the EV-DO Rev. A and GPS capabilities that are already built into the Mogul hardware. Sprint and HTC plan to make this software ROM available in early 1Q 2008. We would also like to extend our thanks to those customers that have taken the time to identify and report these issues to us.

Who needs a touch?
Very interesting indedd, because as of this morning, neither level2 Sprint Tech support or HTC support knew anything about them even working on a new rom. According to VP of customer service from Sprint, we MIGHT see new Rom before Xmas. Rev A and GPS not until late Q1 08.

Mine does the ...

vibrate lockup too on occasion. I think they should have given this thing 128 or 256 MB of program memory and gone short on ROM allowing the user to upgrade with a micro SD. There also is a memory leak in there somewhere! The longer the phone runs even with no programs running free program memory ticks down from about 22 to 14 mb and that seems to be when problems start to happen. Or it could be that I don't know what the hell I'm talking about!

I guess the big question will be is the GPS good enough to use in place of a regular bluetooth GPS? I'd love not to HAVE to carry around the extra hardware, but I image that it will have a fairly big hit on the phone battery to work as GPS and display with something like iGuidance. But it would make Google Maps 1000% handier for finding local phone numbers!

And what makes you think it will be real GPS? (I hope it is, but have seen no evidence to believe it)

Price of Touch

The price of the Touch compared to the Mogul is manufactored selective pricing, as well as recent price drop in Iphone, not because it's necesarilly worth less.
