Re: [Kernel] Ziggy471 MECHA BETA Kernel UPDATED 3 May 11
Ziggy, per the GPL, I am formally requesting that you publish the source code, via your choice of version control system, or as a tarball.
Thanks! Last edited by Mr. X; 05-09-2011 at 04:16 PM. Reason: No emails posted publicly |

Seeing all the the great work you've done, the paranas still want your code. Gotta say your May 3rd kernel is definitely one of your best. Deadly combination of superior performance and battery life. Everything works flawlessly. Keep up the great work.

I just finished reading about how the May 3rd kernel allows you to choose specific frequencies to be used or not, and I'm wondering how difficult that is to implement. I looked at ziggy's post describing how to do it, but as someone who is not all that familiar with terminal or adb I'm wondering if I might want to try out an earlier kernel until someone creates an app/program to make it easier for newbs like myself? It doesn't look too difficult. I guess I could just take the plunge and give it a shot, eh? Doesn't really seem like I could totally mess anything up, and if I did I could always restore a backup. Anyway, excited to try out these kernels again. Had good luck with his back in early April and then he disappeared for a while. Been running Imoseyon's lean extreme and been pretty happy, but the flash-a-holic in me needs to try something else! |

Ziggy, On a side note, I just tried imoseyons kernel (2.6.35.9) for the bolt and I would love to see you work on that or the 2.6.39 trees. That is if my assumption about newer trees being more efficient is correct. Finally, this kernel is giving me ridiculously good battery life now. It sat on 100% for so long on day 1 that I thought there was something wrong with the device (2 hours plus)... I was shocked to find that the phone was stable with the low end being pegged to as low as 24 (did have slow wake issues). I am now running it at 61/1036 smartass and happy as a pig. Thank you for your input. Its irrelevant to my request however. So if it doesn't concern you, please ignore it. He has been using this same excuse of "clean up" for 6 months. Check his blog. I post all of my source, and so do most other devs, lest they fall to the same criticism. We don't like it when HTC breaks the GPL guidelines, so we should all lead by example. As for the piranhas comment above, thats cute. I have no need for his code. I just feel that folks should stand up to their word. If you post on your blog that you are pulling kernels until your source gets taken care of, and then post them on another site...thats pretty messed up. His blog about it was taken down yesterday, but google cache doesn't lie. http://webcache.googleusercontent.co...www.google.com This doesn't have to be a big deal. Just publish your source. The source was published to you to modify, now do the open source community right and give back to it. Calling me a piranha or telling me how my needs don't matter to users is pretty immature. I am not familiar with Ziggy's work, however I hear it is very good. I am familiar with the development community and how the GPL works. I am not accusing him of anything, other than being in non compliance, but consider the only two possible reasons for non compliance. Only reason for someone or a company not to release their source code is to stifle community development, or hide something shady/illicit. To allow for code clean up is the same excuse HTC gave me in the past, it does not make sense and is not a valid reason. With the kernel being the core of the system, a person could be doing anything from it. "Key logging", sniffing traffic, making a phone botnet who knows. Fact is GPL compliance helps use avoid this, but show there is nothing to hide. The other option, is he is stifling development on this platform, for whatever his reasons are. So either he is hiding something, or purposely stifling the community development on this device. Pick one Last edited by jcase; 05-10-2011 at 11:11 AM. I agree. Why not just release the code? So many talk of the great kernels ziggy does so we would all benefit if the source was released. It's really all about this community and the tireless work the devs do for zilch. Anything that would enhance our experience is a plus in my book.

Re: [Kernel] Ziggy471 MECHA BETA Kernel UPDATED 3 May 11
Guys, the source is publicly up. In fact, I'm cloning the mecha source right now.
PPCGeeks does not require him to post a link to it just prove to us that it is publicly available. Maybe if you spend less time riding his ass and just shot him a PM he may even do the leg work and just link you rather than expecting you guys to use some common sense and find it on his web page, lol. He has been working on setting up his own git server for some time. He used to host his tar balls on my site. The source has always been there. Just not on a silver platter with some one spooning it to you. You want the source, send him a PM don't post your email publicly. Try just talking to him rather than starting a riot, and reporting PPCGeeks for GPL violations when we're clearly not. We're not even hosting said binaries. And we've already asked him for source and he produced. You guys need to get some facts straight before you start a lynch mob and drag everyone through mud for nothing. He is in compliance with the GPL, It's currently uploaded and available to the public if they looked. Don't bother reporting this thread it will be ignored.
