Re: How to unlock GPS on Verizon HTC Imagio

So basically, no way to use the gps, unless you pay for the vz navigator?
The reason I say this, is I've ensured the location is set as available for all applications, ran the QuickGPS. Still can't get the internal GPS to work. The ones who say they have got it to work, have signed up for the VZ Navigator (see the posts).

Re: How to unlock GPS on Verizon HTC Imagio

I have three different GPS programs on my Imagio and I don't pay for the service. I like the Garmin the best very little lag. Thats what good about the Imagio, the GPS is unlocked. Free to use...

BS! No VZ navigator and everything works extraordinarily well on my device. Take it to the store and if they can't fix it, moan until they give you a new one. I will say that I thought my GPS was kaput...because I was trying to get it to work inside. Go stand/park near a major road, and I would be willing to bet it all clicks on. Also, google maps requires that you enable the GPS. That may be the solution to that specific problem.

You are unique indeed

GPS works for everyone else here FOR FREE - NO VZ Navigator

This thread should be closed. Some people are so clueless. (Ignore this)
NO VZ Navigator is needed to get gps to work.

It was said in first 2nd and 3rd post of this thread:
Turn location on.

How to:
  1. press the talk button (if don't know that talk button is return the phone )
  2. When the dialer appears press the "Menu" soft key
  3. When the menu appears press the "Options..."
  4. Press the "CMDA Services" tab
  5. Select "Location Setting" in list box
  6. Press the "Get Settings..." button.
  7. Select "LOCATION ON" and then select "OK" in the upper right corner.
  8. A warning screen appears then press "Ok".
  9. Run Quick GPS (makes a difference with how fast the GPS picks up your location)
  10. reset the phone.
  11. Bing, Google Maps or any GPS aware application will now be able to use the GPS.
  12. If GPS still does not work. Just return or sell the phone and get yourself a non smartphone... You know, one that is as dumb as you are.
  13. Ignore 12. That's just for me being me.
I have been through two Imagios. And that's exactly what I did. I get GPS locks in 5-10 seconds on a cloudly rainy day from inside the basement.

EDIT: If your gps does not after following the steps above you should probably take it to verizon shop to have them look @ it.

Re: How to unlock GPS on Verizon HTC Imagio

I just got an HTC IMAGIO yesterday and the sales rep pointed out the internal GPS is locked into the VZ Navigator program. I just tried to visit M.GOOGLE.COM and download the mobile google apps and the site gave me the message that " your device is not supported " - does this sound correct to any of you guys?
thanks!

Try going to http://m.google.com/gmm from your phone with IE instead of opera, you should be able to download the cab no problem then. And yes, GPS is completely unlocked and will work with bing, google maps, tom tom, garmin, or any other GPS app you need. Just make sure Location settings are on and QuickGPS has been updated.

Re: How to unlock GPS on Verizon HTC Imagio

thanks ! and YOU ARE CORRECT -
I've answered my own question !!!!
After further research i found -

YOU MUST DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE GOOGLE MAPS APP VIA INTERNET EXPLORER - if you use the opera browser ( standard on IMAGIO ) you will not be able to install it on your IMAGIO - use IE and it will work fine, the GPS utilizes it with no problems.
