Re: HTC Hero on its way to Sprint! Confirmed!

"2. Has visual voicemail been confirmed? I've seen Sprint documentation stating it was, however, I haven't seen it referenced in any of the 25 or so reviews I've read."

Mobile burn.com has a video review of the htc sprint hero. He shows you the voicemail feature in the video. It's really nice. So yes it does have this feature.

?3. How does the calendar, mail and contact clients stack up against WinMo? I rely heavily on my calendar, as it's synced with my company's exchange server. It basically keeps my life orgainzed on every level, so I'd really need it to be pretty solid. Again, I haven't really seen this touched on in any of the reviews. Same with mail. Contacts I guess I've seen reviewed pretty extensively because of the integration it has with all of the social networking and whatnot, so my main concern are the calendar and the mail clients.?

That mobile burn video shows this information as well. Both the calendar and mail apps are top notch.

I'm pretty sure it can, since it is essentially "mounting" the SD card to act as an external, and I don't believe that would be O/S specific, but again, I haven't found any hard evidence that confirms it one way or the other.
While I can't speak directly to being compatible with a mac, the manual in the link I posted above, speaks to mounting the phone as a USB drive. When you plug the phone into a USB port, you click on settings, and mount as USB drive, or something like that. As long as the signature of the phone mimics that of a standard USB flash drive, you shouldn't have any issues. The android market also probably has a program to deal with Android-Mac connectivity.

Is the Push Email option activated when syncing with Exchange?

hahaha, not too encouraging that the reviewer hasn't gotten the Visual Voicemail to work properly yet

Also, didn't see the calendar, but the mail and contacts do look nice. Even though that is a fairly new video review, with I'm assuming the new speedier software, there was a little bit more loading time for some stuff than I expected. Still...very nice!

Another thing, does anyone know if this phone will be upgradable for 1.6 Donut when released?

Based on the user manual, there is no mention of Visual Voicemail. In the video review on Mobileburn.com they were unable to get it working at that point, and in the text of the review, mention that Sprint is "looking into it". Do you think there is a possibility that Sprint just nixed the feature? I would think there would be SOME mention of VV in the user manual, right?

Re: HTC Hero on its way to Sprint! Confirmed!

I for one am sold on the hero over the tp2, I was completly sold on the tp2 till I started watching all the reviews and vids of the hero and now am 100% getting it when it comes out. I love winmo but the hero is just calling me. The pre doesn't excite me much n the other phones dropping on the sixth w 6.5 haven't really screamed to me.

No, I think it's pretty much official that this phone will require an Everything Plan with Data. The flyer for early release to Reward Zone members also says, "Requires new 2-year in-store activation or eligible 2-year upgrade on Business Essentials Message & Data Plan or an Everything Plan with Data."
