Thanks everyone.
Honestly if that ever happens again its a very simple process to replace the digitizer yourself. I've done this myself for 3 for a TMobile Wing, TP, TP2, and recently a Hero that a friend found on the street. For the most part you can find any part on ebay for these phones and and they usually even give you the tools and step by step instructions too. I only suggest this if you don't have a warranty or TEP. Anyways its a great way to save cash and make sure the job gets done correctly

Re: Yup. the Hero is a piece of crap.

I hope I can help clear things up a little. (I've been doing this over 9 yrs.) Sprint knows when you didn't buy the phone from a Sprint corporate store very quickly. If you bought it over the phone or web directly from Sprint, it takes another minute or two, but they can find it. Other than that, they can't tell which 3rd party you got it from, they just know you got it 3rd party. Sprint Service and Repair stores will cover the manufacturer's warranty for you within the first year. If you are having problems within the first 30 days, we send you back to the 3rd party for you to get another BRAND NEW phone. Any other time within the first year, Sprint will fix or replace the phone (90% of the time reconditioned) at no cost. KEEP IN MIND THAT IT IS AN EXTENSION OF THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. So mechanical and electrical failure only. Any kind of physical damage will be referred to Asurion with the deductible. Once you've had it for a year, you're done. Unless, you have TEP. Then, the services continue to be free for as long as that phone is on your account. I work in one of the busiest Sprint owned S&R centers in the country and the Hero NEVER comes in for issues. Like Bradart said, I sell a ton of these phones because I have one and I love it. Almost every single time someone comes in with a "messed up" Hero, it's because they have unreasonable expectations of what it's supposed to do. I have not ever heard of screen going bad on a Hero. So I would definitely agree that you are just unlucky and this is NOT proof of a badly built phone. And BTW, hahahahah, we are as addicted to these forums as you are, so posting advice on how to trick us usually doesn't do a whole lot

I just had a thought OP....were you trying to use a stylus or your fingernails to work the Hero's screen because sadly it's a capacitive screen not resistive so those wont work like on the Touch Pro.

Re: Yup. the Hero is a piece of crap.

I have never needed the insurance with a phone...That is why I don't spend the money on it. And replacing these phones like once a year or two with a new one I can't say I will be doing it any time soon.

My son is happy now once again. I hope he has better luck with his third screen.

BTW, I have never really had any problems with the TP. Occasional stupid stuff...I had a chance to see a TP2 for the first time and I really liked it (especially the screen compared to the TP) except for the price. I think I will probably still wait for the EVO though. I need a bigger screen for my aging eyes.

My son got one December 29th 2009. The screen started acting up about a month and half ago then all of a sudden stopped working all together. Sent it to HTC, they fixed it or exchanged it and he got the replacement last friday. This one did not even make it a week and the screen no longer responds to touch.

I have owned three HTC phones before this one and have beaten them to death without issues. My son takes meticulous care of this one and it's failed twice already.

I am thinking twice now about replacing my own TP with the new evo. Seems like HTC is going down hill in quality.
ill pay for shipping if you wanna send it to me I know its a sucky phone and all. I just hate all the rooting and modding and custom look and smooth operation from app to app. its so annoying. that's why ill take it off your hands for ya

Re: Yup. the Hero is a piece of crap.

the hero is a nice phone but it is very slow IMO. it does have a serious defect though, the seal between the lcd and the body is horrible. that's how the dust gets under the screen, i found this out yesterday when applying a screen protector with a small amount of solution spray that as given. the spray seeped underneath the lcd and caused staining and fog until i placed the phone in a bag of rice. this proves it has a defect, i called htc and they may be giving me a new phone tomorrow and they are aware of it. any other phone ive installed a water based screen protector NEVER had this issue.im also on my 3rd hero now. the first had the dust, the 2nd would not provision or update the profile and now my 3rd is ok so far but i found out it is a used refurbish with over 700 life minutes used before i got it. maybe that's the issue with sprint, they need to stop giving out refurbished phones.

Re: Yup. the Hero is a piece of crap.

That sucks man.. i went around and around with sprint..on this issue..gave up. gave the dusty hero to my brother.. who has insurance on his line.. told him to use the phone for a month or so. then call sprint and gripe..lol He is in awe right now. he was still using my old sanyo m1.lol I bought a brand new hero on craiglist that has the fix.. so im happy again.. I love the hero.. dont care its old compared to other android phones.. does everything i need it to.. and with the right camera app.. takes pretty good outside shots..

But ya sprint really needs to step up on this issue..cause some stores will fix it and some wont.. and sending it back to htc to me is not a option..
