Re: HTC Says Android 2.1 on April 26
It's the internet, so I expect a lot of opinions based on an incomplete story so no worries spiritcrusher.
My Diamond died on March 13 and I was leaving for vacation on the 14th so I had to get a new phone. I knew there were a ton of annoucements coming at CTIA, but I really couldn't go on vacation without a phone. I had no choice but to get a new phone ahead of the June release. Now I have some time and some options... I really like the Hero so don't consider it bashing when some body wants a different phone, but if I know the Hero is less powerful and not living up to its full capabilities for another month, and then one month after that a monster of a phone with a faster processor, bigger screen and additional capabilities is coming out, why would I want to use my upgrade on the Hero, forcing me to wait until March 2011 to get the next generation of phones? For you it's a matter of the end of the year, for me it's June or March 2011, and common sense to me is to be inconvenienced for 2 months now and enjoy the best phone on the planet in a few months. To each their own... We can agree to disagree on the last point, but I still think that 4-5 months after Android 2.X came out is an awfully long wait to get and upgrade. I know HTC has a lot of work to do on the skin, so it makes Motorola/Verizon's delay even more ridiculous, but something is going to have to change here. In reality we're not waiting for Android 2.x, we're waiting for SenseUI v3... |

I buy the Hero for $149 with my upgrade, sell it on craigslist for the same price or maybe $200 in June (if I'm lucky - the market will be saturated with people doing the same thing), then pay retail for the EVO ($400-$500). How is that better than paying $200 for the EVO in June with my upgrade? |
Re: HTC Says Android 2.1 on April 26
Trust me, the EVO will not be $200 with upgrade! Easily a $300 plus dollar device. I'm in the same boat, I can take my Hero back but I think I'm going to keep it until next year. Android devices are only going to get better, especially by next year.

Re: HTC Says Android 2.1 on April 26
I guess I'll be the one to point out that that article states the message from HTC is for Taiwan, hopefully it is a sign that it's coming to the US soon, but HTC still has to work with Sprint on rolling out the update, so just because its available in Taiwan on the 26th, doesn't mean it'll be available in the US

Wirelessly posted (Opera/9.80 (J2ME/MIDP; Opera Mini/5.0.18302/1092; U; en) Presto/2.4.15)
the evo wont be out until after the nexus one, bank on that. the nexus is due this summer so the evo will be early fall. they wont release both at the same time. btw if you want the final sprint 2.1 go to xda and download the new damage rom. |
