Help me keep my Hero.....

THIS IS IN NO WAY BASHING THE HERO AT ALL

I have the Hero now, but am still within my 30 days (around 2 weeks left). I came from the Pre, and while it could be a little buggy at times, I know the processor has the potential to utilize it with the GPU and everything. I like Android, the development, and all that is going for it; however, I HATE the processor on the Hero. Why did HTC choose to use it?

I love that the Hero has more battery life and just feels like a strong solid device (Pre feels like a plastic toy) and that for now (when not multi-tasking), the Hero feels snappier when moving between apps. When I went back to Pre before (I had tried the Hero one time and decided I would stay with it later) it just felt like I took a step backwards compared to Android OS. But it also felt a little snappier because of the processor.

Here is my question: Should I hold out for 2.1 and pray that it speeds things up, or should I just drop the Hero and wait for a stronger Android device on Sprint? (I will NOT take the Moment, even with the 800 mhz processor.....that thing looks ugly and just doesn't feel as nice as the Hero). I know software can only take a device so far vs. hardware specs......

I just don't know what to do.....

I feel you man, I love this phone but can't help but think about how much of a beast it would be with better hardware. I can't understand why HTC did this other than cost, but I would've gladly paid for the improvements. I wanna stick with this phone but will probably switch to the first similar device with next gen hardware. It's 2010 man we gotta step it up. I just hope 2.1 will make some NOTICEABLE difference.

Either way this is great device to ride out the interim. ;D

Re: Help me keep my Hero.....

I would ditch the hero while you still can. I have both a hero and a pre and I find myself using my pre more than my hero. I totally agree with you about the better build quality of the hero and the superior battery life, but I don't think it makes up for the slowness of the device and the usability issues it creates (try typing a response to this thread with your hero and you'll feel the pain). I don't think the 2.1 update will bring any significant speed improvements either. Actually the cdma hero got a firmware update to improve "speed" even before it was released (the european hero was even slower with all it's animations). I think they have optimized the software as well as they can given the hardware. Actually I got the point last week where I was so fed up with my hero I wanted to trade it for a windows mobile device. I landed up just buying one, and I have a feeling I'm going to use my new htc diamond more than my hero.

I think you should take your Pre and your Hero and rub them together, maybe they'll produce a PALMDROID with a 1500mhz processor and everythign you want in a phone/device. You can call it the PRERO!

Re: Help me keep my Hero.....

Have you tried fresh 1.1? Flipz has made some modifications, to make it snappier. You can always revert back to stock with his 1.56 signed RUU. Personally I love the phone, i'm coming from just about every palm device, moto q9c and the htc diamond.

I came from the diamond, and while they share the same processor, the hero is faster. The keyboard lag is annoying (feeling the pain typing this), but I do have this stock and haptic feedback on. The word correction on the hero is nicer too. At the same time, i dont ever see palm really taking advantage of the gpu on the pre, at least not before a better hero comes out. Also, android os just feels slightly better than webos. Im not even an app type of person, but when i saw apps that were actually useful in the app store, i almost forgot about the pre. along with the fact that i can viee pdf dcuments and stuff like that on the fly makes the device more usable even when it freezes all the time. Maybe I'll just put a diffetenytrom on my phone now that the official ruu has been released

Re: Help me keep my Hero.....

You can get an app for the Hero called spare parts. It really helps speed things up on your device. I can type pretty fast with the hero keyboard, as I answer most post in this forum with my Hero.

Re: Help me keep my Hero.....

Wanna keep the hero? Look at this up time, that's a lot of time without a soft reset... I only reset because I flashed a new Fresh rom. For those who don't want to do the math, that's over a week. I installed and uninstalled and updated many apps in that time too.
