I don't think the 2.1 update will bring any significant speed improvements either. Actually the cdma hero got a firmware update to improve "speed" even before it was released (the european hero was even slower with all it's animations). I think they have optimized the software as well as they can given the hardware. Actually I got the point last week where I was so fed up with my hero I wanted to trade it for a windows mobile device. I landed up just buying one, and I have a feeling I'm going to use my new htc diamond more than my hero.

I came from the diamond, and while they share the same processor, the hero is faster. The keyboard lag is annoying (feeling the pain typing this), but I do have this stock and haptic feedback on. The word correction on the hero is nicer too. At the same time, i dont ever see palm really taking advantage of the gpu on the pre, at least not before a better hero comes out. Also, android os just feels slightly better than webos. Im not even an app type of person, but when i saw apps that were actually useful in the app store, i almost forgot about the pre. along with the fact that i can viee pdf dcuments and stuff like that on the fly makes the device more usable even when it freezes all the time. Maybe I'll just put a diffetenytrom on my phone now that the official ruu has been released
