Re: HTC Hero... Worth it?
Since becoming a smartphone junkie, I was always a winmo person. I second what Cheyne said...when a new phone got released it was always "when is it going to be unlocked so i can start dumping custom roms on" so that you can get a phone with flare and usability, and it never ended >.<
Since going to the hero as of last week, dumping the touch pro doesn't cause me to lose any sleep. This phone does suffer from lag on occasion when you have mundo apps running the background but you cannot blame the hero itself. But that is what Taskiller is for but honestly running stock hero...it just works for me. Things I'm missing out of the box are tethering and office apps, but thats a matter of rooting the phone and getting the apps. But nevertheless, this phone is my hero, pardon the pun. Android is maturing very quickly and the user base is growing exponentially. The interface is slick, a gazillion apps are at your hand (of course iphone still is reigning king, but they've been at it longer). Only things I wish the phone had were a better battery, the ability to turn off all services but wifi so I can use my phone as a VOIP in a dead zone and not have the battery kill itself due to constantly looking for service....and one of my favorite apps on the winmo..garminXT :P Anyways, as a newb to android, I can say that it is growing on me very quickly

Re: HTC Hero... Worth it?
you can disable the cell antena in the settings so it doesnt keep searching. like your in a building that doesnt get coverage. just go setting>wireless controls> and disable mobile network.
i am also migrating from the tp i was gonna get the tp2 until i saw verizon had teh same phone without tweaked hardware and it was only 200dollars out the gate. 350 out the gate for the tp2 on sprint. i am personally glad i got the hero. hard keyboards are nice but if u ever pocket it and open it it can be really annoying. the only annoying things about it is im so used to the file system in wm 6.5 and now when i have folders set up for quick access there all just searched and one big list. but all in all its alot more seamless than wm and i love the new screen on it. and the trackball was just icing on the cake. |

Re: HTC Hero... Worth it?
I was a touch pro user. I thought I wouldn't be able to do without the physical keyboard but now I am glad I switched. The biggest difference you will notice is how much longer the battery lasts. And you can use the TP2 battery in the hero btw so you have a spare already.
