Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

I am trying to fix my friends EVO that was Rooted with Revolutionary yesterday. He did not pick the select Y for the backup when he rooted.

Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash ClockworkMod Recovery? [Y/n] n

He can not get into the recovery of his Hboot. I tried to mess with it for him since I am revoked rooted and know a little about rooting/roms/etc so I know his s-off is showing when he boots into the Hboot. When you go to recovery you receive a green circle then 2 secs later a red triangle with an !. You can do a power+vol up and it allows you to boot from the sd card however I received this error when trying to install the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.

E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command

--Install /sdcard...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
verifying update package...
E:signature verfication failed
Installation aborted

I figured it out, I plugged the phone back into his machine and ran the revolutionary.exe again and it asked if I wanted to Do you want to download (Internet connection required) and flash, This time I selected Y and everything worked.

I know you asked if Synergy(I think you ment, CyanogenMod) was an ok rom. I did not like the rom since the camera app made the 8megapixal camera take photos like an old camera phone from 2004. I have been using Fresh Rom with Go launcher loaded and I have a 3 to 4 day battery charge with HEAVY use from 8am to 9pm at night. This rom is great you should try it out.

I like it so far as the UI is gorgeous with Sense 2.1 and 3.0 lock screen and is so bloody quick.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

I can't get to revolutionary.io? I can get anywhere else. Please don't tell me it's been taken down!

Just tried it's direct IP 178.21.113.172 and it's also no-go.

Anyone have a new IP to get the file, please?

(I've got 2 EVOs here waiting for root!)

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

i just did this. Super easy. I use ez tether pro for net connection and once I downloaded htc drivers, revo, R.A recovory, and super user i manualy entered my info on revo site to get beta key. Installed htc driver, unpacked revo, turned off norton, turned off ez tether (wouldn't reconize device while running), put su on sd card as named, renamed ra to pcimg36100 and put on sd card and ran revo.exe

after it did the fastboot twice i did recovery and got red ! so i removed battery and put into bootloader and it flashed ra from there, then did recovery and flashed su.

install driver
pull battery and get SN
imput info at revo
get key
copy key
run revo.exe
past key when dos shows sn of phone
wait for fastboot
reboot into bootloader
flash ra (renamed to pcimg36100)
reboot into recovery
flash su
nand backup (check all boxes {at least wimax})
root done

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

For some people who may have issues with running Clockwork Recovery, some ROMs wont run with that so make sure after flashing the CWR you close it and then go back into it and flash ALTERNATE RECOVERY Amon. Amon can handle some of the newer ROMs out there so you wont get any errors in trying to flash them.

I would be happy to assist. First download the ROM [ROM] Synergy [RLS1] [8/5/11] - Now With Warm Sprinkles! - xda-developers (I'm using RLS1) and transfer to your SD card. If you haven't done a backup yet this is a great time to do so and transfer a copy to your computer. Boot into recovery and clear you cache, dalvick, and system and then select install zip from SD card (note: text may not be exact depending on your recovery software) and scroll to Synergy-RLS1-supersonic.zip and install. I am also using Weather lock screen 2 from Synergy weather lock screen + Gmode also - xda-developers just install it like the ROM above. Reboot as normal and if everything works boot back into recovery and do a backup.

Hope that clears it up some,

-Travis

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

Just to let everyone, I used the revolutionary.io (that is a website for those who did not figure it out), and successfully rooted a 2.16 Hboot EVO 4G.

I did this in a VMWARE Virtual machine running Win7, on my MacBook Pro....

It was pretty easy following the directions, though the directions I followed did not specify that you need to download the revolutionary.io script from that website.

I find the "Press Almost Any Key to Finish" pretty amusing... I pressed B and it did not work, did anyone else not have the key they chose work? Was it set to ignore the first key press, just for a little laugh?

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

I think a step needs to be added to let people know to go to revolutionary.io to download the
revolutionary-0.4pre4.zip. (I am sure that I am not the only one who had a slight bit of "duh" while looking for this.) also, revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip, was not there anymore, I used revolutionary-0.4pre4.zip with no issue.

1. remove HTC Sync from your computer
2. Install HTC Fastboot Drivers (http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe)
3. Download Superuser (http://goo-inside.me/superuser/su-2....fgh-signed.zip) and put on your SD card
4. Put your serial number (S/N located under battery or on box) where indicated
5. Download the revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip when asked
6. Write down your beta key
7. Extract revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip somewhere you can find it
8. Make sure you are connected using the HTC Sync option on your phone
9. Check that USB debugging is enabled
10. Run revolutionary.exe from the revolutionary-0.4pre3 folder
11. Input the beta key where requested
12. Selected either Y/n to install recovery (I selected Y)
13. Select Recovery (Use the volume up/down keys to move and power to select)
14. Select install from .zip
15. Scroll down to su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and hit the power button
16. Reboot

Congratulations you now are rooted and have superuser privileges. Now go find a ROM you like from one of the many talented Chef's out there (Be sure the ROM is for the Evo as ROM's for other devices will not work). Put the ROM on your SD card and boot to hboot (Power on + volume down) and select Recover, select install from .zip, select the ROM and hit the power button.

Be careful as you can do permanent harm to your phone with root privileges. If you need to take your phone to Sprint for repair make sure you flash the stock ROM located at http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-e...pped-roms.html .

I hope that helps and if you are a pro and I missed something let me know.

-Travis

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

Hey guys just wanted to report that this root method is great! im finally back on cm7! it was a little scary to realize that i was getting used to the stock rom for a month

just a reminder, for those you going back to cm7, make sure you get the GPS fix. I was having issues till I flashed that. And if you're still getting a fuzzy gps signal after installing the gps fix, then reinstall google maps and you should be good
