This is a noob question...It says you have to have root to use Titanium backup...but I thought you're suppose to backup before you root? I want to root with revolutionary, but want to take proper steps...any suggestions?

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

I corrected my mistake and what I have down there is how I got it working for me. It's a little complicated the way I explained it but I did the best I could, just remember you will have to go back to the Dos window twice.

1. remove HTC Sync from your computer
2. Install HTC Fastboot Drivers (http://downloads.unrevoked.com/HTCDriver3.0.0.007.exe)
3. Download Superuser (Goo-Inside.me) and put on your SD card
4. Download the revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip Revolutionary
5. Extract revolutionary-0.4pre3.zip somewhere you can find it
6. Go to where you save it from you can aether double click it or you can do run cmd and drag the revolutionary exe file there in to dos window and hit enter that way you can just copy and past the Serial key that the beta page generates there. by doing so it will give you a Serial key that's what you put on the Beta page from this Revolutionary page
7. Now use the number that the beta generates mMM go back to the dos window past it there the magic will began.
8. Check that USB debugging is enabled
9. Selected either Y/n to install recovery (I selected Y)
10. Select Recovery (Use the volume up/down keys to move and power to select)
11. Select install from .zip
12. Scroll down to su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and hit the power button
13. Reboot

I know that seems misleading....but you really must be rooted to use Titanium backup. Depending on what you would like to backup, there may be alternative options before you root. I have used revolutionary.io on a co-workers phone, and it did not lose any data.

I would guess that you might want to backup SMS with SMS BACKUP from the market.....

Your pictures/videos should be ok as they should be on your SD Card.

You might want to back up your contacts, you can do that in your PEOPLE app by opening PEOPLE, and selecting IMPORT/EXPORT from the MENU Button.

Sounds like you are trying to type it in instead of copying and pasting it in.

Re: revolutionary.io root for Evo 4G 2.3.3

My revolutionary root worked up to the recovery point. It asked me if I wanted to install recovery and I hit y. It said it was installed but there is no "recovery" on my boot screen. Can I install clockwork recovery direct or by some other means? I'm s-off right now.
