Are you referring to Rooted phones?

Should be part of the stock rom. I used it on my Evo, prior to rooting, and even after rooting.

Are you referring to z4 for temp root? Else, how do you tether wireless on stock ROM? (or did you mean rooted, but stock ROM)

Re: Gingerbread (2.3) coming to EVO no later than June

Maybe I have my terms crossed... But I can have upto 8 devices hooked up to my phone... I don't do 8 but I have had my netbook and my wife's nook hooked up to my EVO wirelessly using the Sprint Hotspot widget on my completely stock EVO. Never rooted.
Am I misinterpreting something?

Sprint is "supposed" to charge for that hot spot feature, at $30/mo. Are you not getting charged? I remember reading a while back the 4G tethering was free, because their system was not set up to be able to prevent you from using the wi-fi hotspot on 4G, but that *should* have been resolved months ago.

Re: Gingerbread (2.3) coming to EVO no later than June

Nope... I have a family unlimited plan though... Maybe that's why I don't need to root to take advantage of it... I get it though... And I see why it would make sense to root if you are not in an unlimited plan.

I use over 40gb of data per month so unlimited was the ONLY way to go even if I was in an individual plan I would be on unlimited.

You are lucky to be getting the Sprint wifi tether for free - regardless of the plan, it is supposed to be a $29.99 extra (per month)

Enjoy
