No, I'm not confusing it. That was the official communication of the new policy sent to us on Feb 1st. Any display/lcd/lens/whatever with a crack 1 inch or longer, or multiple cracks, is considered damaged beyond repair. Insurance claim, deductible, device.

Well then... I guess sprint is becoming crappy again. If the att, tmo deal goes through sprint is definitely in trouble. They made huge leaps with their customer service and then made even better changes with their repair policy but I guess they like shooting themselves in the leg over and over again. Oh well. I guess my friend got lucky those couple times they fixed his phone with the cracked screen.

I checked with the same Sprint store that repaired my busted evo screen and it has changed. They no longer repair them u have to pay the deductible and that's the only option

Re: Sprint Repair

I have been to several different repair centers in SoCal in the last two weeks, dealing with 3 different phones, getting different results from each. My wife's Epic had a crack internal to the display after dropping it from the couch onto the carpet (about 18 inches). I was pissed that this super-phone couldn't handle a short drop onto padding. After the initial CSR told me that it was obviously due to multiple drops, I pointed out that the phone didn't have a single mark on it. Anywhere. In a matter of 4 minutes another tech took the phone and said he would take care of it. 30 minutes later I had the phone in hand w/ a new screen, free of charge. On my daughter's LG Rumor there was a similar situation a few days later. She merely set hers down and when she picked it up again a little later there was a crack internal to the screen. The surface glass was perfectly fine in both instances, but they refused to even look at the Rumor, despite the tech support guy on the phone putting a ticket in instructing them to swap the phone because this was a known issue. They wouldn't even update the ticket, just saying that it had to be a claim through Asurion. Now the ironic thing is that they love to talk about the 1" rule with the screens. It's ironic because they can't repair the LCD, regardless of the size of the crack. An inch or a foot, either way it renders the screen useless and that panel can not be repaired. Now my EVO, on the other hand, always gets taken care of. I've had a couple of speakers replaced in-store and am actually picking up a replacement today because my old one would get ridiculously hot if I was talking and charging the phone at the same time. So hot that the kickstand could give you burns if you touch it. They looked at it for 5 minutes, said it wasn't the battery and ordered a replacement. It almost seems like the model of the phone determines the level of service at times, as well. But they surely can't seem to get on the same page between the different stores and the reps on the phone.

This is fact and if you got a cracked LCD replacement in a sprint corp store with or without TEP after Feb 1 is was against Sprint Corp policies. Not saying it doesn't happen because it does with or without $35 service and repair fee.

Yeah, sometimes if the customer is particularly irate, we're allowed to replace the screen with approval from our Sprint service supervisor. It's a one-time courtesy thing. If you come back in 2 weeks later with a busted screen, we're not replacing it again.
