Help 2 choose android instead of WM

Hello, I am looking fordward to buy a new HTC but I have more android options that windows mobile. Since I do not know anything about android can you guys help me out with it?

The thing is that I do everything with outlook even my email is a POP and is my primary outlook account. Can I fully migrate that to the Android phone?

I had a old diamond so I am most into windows apps than others. Is is easy to get android apps? I love my Garmin XT music ID among others.

Thanks for the help

Re: Help 2 choose android instead of WM

I was a diehard WM user too (Treo700wx, Mogul, TP) and hated the thought of changing to Android, but since I have been on Android since about SEP of last year, I am sold. So far I can do everything w/ my EVO I could do w/ my TP and then some. As for the 2 apps you specifically mentioned; I have 2 alternatives for Music ID (Shazam & Sound Hound-both free) and Google Navigation is awesome as a TomTom/Garmin replacement. Research, ask questions and you'll be fine. Just my .02

Good luck.

Re: Help 2 choose android instead of WM

theres about 10:1 on free apps to paid apps.. Android has over 200,000 apps.. winMO has less than 10,000... so yes, apps are easy...... most apps come the Market, not from forums like winMO.... tweaks/mods still usually come from the forums though...

ANdroids simple, nice, clean, smooth.... youll enjoy it if youve never evolved past the diamond..

+1 to that. I went from omnia to tp2 to evo. i was a die hard fan too. I was gonna wait till wp7 came out for sprint but after some research i decide to join the droid family. You will be able to everything that you did before but more. From what i have learned, WM apps and software are no good. Ages behind android. for example, their apps look poorly made visually compared to the apps on the droid market.

Re: Help 2 choose android instead of WM

Spent 10 years with WM and windows CE before that... Android just gets everything right and the platform just gets better by the day. It's time to take that leap buddy.

Re: Help 2 choose android instead of WM

I was a diehard WM user (PPC 6700, Touch, TP2), and switched last Nov. I love the ease of finding apps. Generally the apps were available for WM, but much harder to find, and much more expensive when you found them (cheap apps were $10, not free or $1).

There are things that I miss about WM. Namely SBP Mobile Shell, but I hear it is in beta (MS5.0 for Android), and having a stylus (that functioned as a backup pen!). And there are things that annoy me that I haven't found a cure for (yet) in android (what is up with landscape in the home screens? Put your phone in a car dock, use it as a nav, and get a call or a text -- it is in portrait). I think the best asset Android has is that it doesn't really have stated minimum requirements, so manufacturers just put the newest, coolest crap in them. They didn't really understand that Windows lies about minimum requirements. Instead of minimum requirements they mean, "If you want your computer to lock up and generally freak out every time you want to do a bunch of crap at once -- then these are the requirements" -- I mean I probably wouldn't have switched from my TP2 if it had a 1g processor, 4G & a capacitive screen, but I am very happy with my EVO.

And that's the purpose of having minimum requirements, why on earth would I want to put Windows 7 on a 486 computer if it's going to run like crap.

Well if you are a true geek then you are always going to be chasing the newest technology because it's always evolving, buy the Evo today and something new is going to come out very soon after with better specs, that's the way it has always been and the way it's always going to be. Had a TP2 also and loved it but once I got a hold of the Evo I love it more and mess with it a lot more but not to try and squeeze every little tip and trick out of it because it already runs great.

This is not attacking you or trying to bust you out just pointing some stuff out.

I can do you one better, dual boot your wm device and test out android yourself. Even that way will give you a good indicator of the OS. The device will run faster as I did that with my tp2

Oh yeah, anything wm was able to do Android can do but faster. Even remote desktop works way better too

my EVO is way cooler than yours

Re: Help 2 choose android instead of WM

If those are your main concerns then yes Android can do those..

ummm..not exactly...not stating minimum requirements does not make manufacturers put the latest and greatest..its more of the other way around..the cheaper hardware you put in the more profit you get..

The thing is what made winmo what it is today for us at least is HTC, and what killed was HTC..when HTC started out they were A LOT smaller then they are today..initially they just made stuff and had them rebranded by other companies such as Dell and HP, the carriers also decided to have their own pdaphones so they made things like the Sprint PPC6700 and the Sprint Mogul..they didn't even work directly but through a distributor called UTStarcom..

In the US, HTC was pretty much the only choice for winmo phones and they were pretty easy to hack..there were a few others like Samsung omnia. motorola and etc of course but were not as easy to hack...

HTC on its part literally put in the "minimum" hardware it could find..and not surprising since they could not afford better..they skimped out on licensing drivers and other things which contributed a lot to lagging out winmo..they also such in Touchflo3d which while made winmo more touch friendly bottled it down even more...

So effectively, they made winmo accessible for our moding pleasure but completely scared off the average consumers with lag, as their was very little competition HTC could easily do this..at the time M$ stood there and did nothing..this i why I say HTC made Winmo and killed winmo at the same time..

Even in Android unfortunately HTC still puts in the minimum hardware though..but they have grown a lot since then and right now competition is A LOT bigger then it was before..so I expect that in 2011 they are going to start releasing some "competitive" hardware at the very least..

If winmo were to have continued then you would have had a TP3 with a 1ghz processor in summer 2010..

+10

I'm kind of puzzled and don't know why people don't go and look at the phones in the stores and play with them and see what the hype is about, that's how I found out that I liked the Evo more than my TP2, it was a toss up between that and the Epic but I never really used the keyboard much and I wanted as much screen as I could get and that convinced me to get the Evo.
