Re: Got turned away from Sprint today for being Rooted
If this is the case then the manager of the referenced Sprint store by the OP should not be calling in phones to possibly blacklist . I personally think that our EVO Forum should have a permanent thread somewhere dedicated to unrooting for service return . One that cannot be updated by anyone other than moderators as to keep it clear and concise but current. I had to unroot twice and in the end it was incredibly simple, of course but hunting for right RUU and what not took some time sifting .

Re: Got turned away from Sprint today for being Rooted
I agree. I now keep a folder on my SD card called UnRoot where I keep a copy of the Signed Unrooted image file and a copy of UnRevokedForeverSon. Hell, I can stand outside of a Sprint store and unroot in 5 minutes, if I have too.

I've taken my rooted evo in to sprint repair center several times without a problem. If course it's never been due to software. If it was software issues they may have denied service.

Re: Got turned away from Sprint today for being Rooted
Funny thing as after I read this thread my son came to me and told me his power button stopped working after he flashed a new rom ( UNommon Sense or something like that) . I wiped and flashed back to a prior rom but still had same issue , power button did not work, only way to kill was removing battery. Recovery would not work because he could not use the button to select a choice. I used Rom manager to flash it again but no luck. Finally just ran stock RUU from PC and unrooted and placed back to stock, problem still not fixed. Not sure what may have happened on his flash or if timing was just coincedental but after we unrooted we went in to a corporate store and paid the 35 dollar Sprint extortion fee even though these are under full warranty ( that is another story) and they gladly exchanged his phone . No questions or weird looks. By all means just take the 5 minutes and and unroot the phone prior to taking it in and just save a backup on your sd card and pull the sd card out before taking the phone in. This eliminates any questions, takes 5-10 minutes to unroot , and maybe another 10 to reroot the new/repaired phone. I did have my son switch to the Bluemike froyo clear rom which has been completely stable for us. His whole sprint swap took 30 minutes , which I would say is not bad for an in store tech review and new phone swap. Of course being in Dallas probably helps compared to a small place. Here is a link to what I believe is a nice mix of functionality and looks .
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/cdma-htc-e...-red-pure.html here is a link MEGAUPLOAD - The leading online storage and file delivery service to the last stock RUU (thanks to KarlE) this is 3.70.651.1 , if you just sync phone to pc with htc sync working , then run this RUU from your pc with phone synced and you will be fine in 10 minutes with a nice new updated stock phone to take in to sprint. Handy to have . You really need not do any thing else to return the phone .If you have the revoked.forever file and a rom that you like already on your sd card , you can be rooted and flashed within minutes after getting your repaired or new phone back , Remember , always wipe twice before flashing Cleanliness is next to Godliness. Re: Got turned away from Sprint today for being Rooted
Warranties are not honored in store, it's a manufacturer warranty. If you don't want to pay the $35, contact HTC.

no kidding? I won't rant on this issue but if Sprint doesn't want to honor a full warranty on something SPRINT sells , then maybe they should let HTC sell the phones and Sprint should just sell the service and not tell you the first thing you need to do when you have a problem with your phone and they cannot fix it over the phone, is to bring it into a Sprint repair center. I understand you are the awesome Sprint Tech rockin the EVO but wasn;t aware you were a paid spokesperson also.. My car is made in Detroit, I don't take it back to Detroit for warranty work , and when I need to return a defective product to Walmart or somewhere else I bought it , I do not expect to have to pay the Walmart a fee to look at it and then tell me its covered under warranty , so now we can exchange it ..... |

Asked my store about it when I stopped in to ask about the screen replacement policy changing. The guy told me that rooting doesn't matter. If ur having software problems they will just revert u back to stock.
