Re: Longest trip taken using the Evo's GPS?
I sort of rebel at using GPS very much. I've flown small planes in the dark from CA to the midwest, and back, over 2 mountain ranges, without it, and I "mourn" the American male giving up self-sufficiency to technology (in any area of life, not just navigational skills), because when the technology fails or gets knocked out for some reason, the country becomes more helpless than ever, and the technology meant to empower people leaves them more helpless than ever.
That said, I generally, if going to a strange area far away, look at the route in general, like take I-5N to I-80E, etc., remember it, then turn the GPS off and just drive it like I have for decades. I only leave it on for street level stuff in unfamiliar neighborhoods. I may flip it on now an then on a long trip to see how far to an interchange, or to the destination, but in general, there is something in me that doesn't want to surrender my navigation entirely to it, any more than I would surrender math skills to a calculator. |

Re: Longest trip taken using the Evo's GPS?
Does four spins around the same block, because the GPS tells me I have arrived, when in fact the destination was on the opposite corner?
hehe, -CC P.S. Although I did use it for 3 days in Orlando to get around the parks and back the hotel, got lost there too, thank goodness for U turns...

Hmm... What exactly were you taking to the midwest in a small plane under the cover of darkness? Did your trip begin in a warehouse in San Ysidro? LOL. p. |

Re: Longest trip taken using the Evo's GPS?
used it 2x when I moved from FL to MN a few months ago, worked perfectly! It was funny, I got to Chicago on a Fri afternoon, traffic was horrendous, was barely moving, the the Nav had me exit off into Chicago, do a uturn, then back on the freeway. I was skeptical at first but trusted ole Google.....I bypassed about 30 min of traffic, lol.
The 2nd trip from FL to MN, I used it along w/ my Hummer built in gps, Google Nav was superior

Similar story in down town Austin. I driving through Austin heading towards Cedar Park when it told me to exit and lead me off some side streets then back on to the highway. Turns out there was some construction and heavy traffic associated with it that I never saw. Other people same trip in other vehicles all talked about how bad the traffic was on their drive up. |

Re: Longest trip taken using the Evo's GPS?
when you get on those double-decker expressways, the GPS navigation gets really confused. 3D roads don't work well
