What is the advantage of rooting it, besides to get a free app to do what I want here? If it costs me $20 to buy a program that will work for my needs, it seems that may be the safer way to go. But if there are a bunch of other things I "get" from un-rooting, I may give it a try. |

Also, rooted you can remove any bloatware or other files that could not be done for most part in WM , especially without doing long edits. When rooted you can use app like root explorer to remove unwanted apps or other things that you dont want there whereas you could not do with WM . The backup restoring and recovery system when rooted can be totally invaluable and save you from many times losing everything and without having to do an elaborately long refash and reload with WM. And yes, the free wifi tethering and tethering in 4g , another reason in itself to root. The first time you root your phone may take you a hour or so depending on how quick you work and follow steps , but its well worth it . It makes it easy to flash new roms , radios, wimax, to your phone . I say take a few hours on a slow day , follow all the steps( it should not be hit or miss if you have a good stock referenced point and follow instructions based on what you have currently on your phone) Usually someone misses a simple step in the process . Good luck and hope you go rooted. |

Re: "Free" tethering internet connection-sprint
the only thing with using PDANET that i worry about is if sprint will find out and then charge you. lets say you download 40 to 50 gigs like i usually use each month on my home connection just by myself as i stream movies, play online games, and re-install windows on a daily basis. I think windows should also be reinstalled on an hourly basis but.... So could sprint say something. I had a co worker who was using pdanet on WM6.x and he used like 20 ot 30 gigs a few years ago and sprint called and asked why his usage was high. He told them he was watching videos and all. They never asked if he was using pdanet or something similar.

Is there any other threads for directions on doing it with 2.02 and 3.30.651.x than this one? [ROOT][GUIDE] HBoot 2.02 S-OFF - Like a Boss Edition! - Updated 11/20/10 - xda-developers Not that that one is bad or anything. Just wondering. |
