Does the free wireless tether allow you to talk on the phone while thethered like the Sprint App?
You wont be able to use the mobile hotspot feature if you have PAM. PAM is 15$ and MHS is 29.99$. You can tether it with USB but not Mobile hotspot. So you can root and get it for free or you would have to pay more for the MHS.
Talking on the phone while tethered is limited by the network, not the phone software. 3g data cannot be used while on the phone. Now if you are using 4g you can talk on the phone.

Is there any other threads for directions on doing it with 2.02 and 3.30.651.x than this one?

Not that that one is bad or anything. Just wondering.
That's what I used and I have the same Hboot and firmware u have. I did it the other night in about 30 minutes or less and love it. I am using Sprint Lovers ROM... just copy the PC36IMG file to the sd card and load it in bootlover. There are other ways for flashing the rom after u have rooted.. but thats how i did it.

I am still learning how to use Nandroid (having issues to..lol)

Re: "Free" tethering internet connection-sprint

I did get my evo rooted w/o too much drama from the link above. Spent a couple of extra hours on it because I didn't do a "clear storage" in bootloader first, I only booted it. But it's done, so thanks again.

I can't get the Android-wifi-tether above working, though. Install fails w/o any error messages besides "failed to install". Maybe because I'm running 2.2 and it only lists 2.1? But I found I can connect with a USB cable and just take the "connect to PC" option. Maybe I could've done that before? I know it didn't work in WM on my TP2 w/o doing some hacks first, so I just assumed it would not either. Hopefully, it's the "free" connection. Works well.

But if I do get a wifi tether going, how do I tell the phone to connect? With a cable, it prompts me. With the wifi, is it just automatic, phone is always connected kind of thing? Any more suggestions for other wifi tether apps?

Thanks much folks! Learning fast.

JEJb

Do yourself a favor and install the Sprint Lovers rom, it has a stock feel but includes all the goodies you need for your phone to really perform. It has great stability and battery life and the wifi tether is already installed for you and works with both 3g and 4g.

Re: "Free" tethering internet connection-sprint

That's the one I did load, Cruise. Is the installed app called "wireless hotspots"? If so, I do have it. I tried to connect with it just now. It fired up on the phone and my PC sees it, but I get an error on the PC when connecting to it. "Windows was unable to connect to SprintHotSpot". I'll have to do some trouble shooting, it seems.

Re: "Free" tethering internet connection-sprint

reboot your computer, that will solve the problem. On Sprint Lovers you can use the Wifi hotspot or the Sprint Hot Spot. Both function and both are free. The sprint hot spot won't do 4g as of yet.

Rebooting my PC did not fix the issue I'm seeing using Wifi Tether, BTW. USB tether still works fine, but it would be fun to get the Wifi working, too.

Re: "Free" tethering internet connection-sprint

Have you tried changing some of the settings in wifi tether. Maybe if you change the ssid, of change the LAN. Your computer may be stuck on a static ip address from your regular network. You can go in to settings, select change lan, and select a different starting ip address. Also, change the frequency. Could be some interference.
