Re: Bad MicroUSB Port-Sprint
Just wanted to say, I too, have a bad USB port. Got mine June 29th I think...
About 5 days ago I noticed it didn't charge overnight...thought it was a fluke, but when I plugged it into the car charger it wouldn't charge either. Got back home and used the OEM cable with charger and it would only charge if I positioned it a certain way. Called Sprint and they said to bring it to a store. I went to a store in Union City near Alvarado and they said ,"It's too loose, we won't fix it." I argued and said BS, but they refused. They told me to go to a 3rd party store and that they would fix it for $100. I called Sprint again and they said they would fix it. They made me an appt to get it looked at again and he told me that they would fix it or get me a replacement. I have the appt tomorrow...We'll see what happens. |

Re: Bad MicroUSB Port-Sprint
This is a know issue by HTC and Sprint. If you Google Sprint Evo bad usp port you will see many post. I think they have a bad design with the way the usb is held to phone, may only be by motherboard and soldier. I talked to a 3rd party Co. that repairs all makes of phones and this seems to not fixable.

Re: Bad MicroUSB Port-Sprint
This definitely a known issue and I too had to have my phone replaced (in Dallas), They will often try to charge the 100 dollars and tell you that since it is a broken or mildly broken connection on the port that it was customer caused. I told them that was BS and that by plugging and unplugging a charging cable , you cannot help but have an issue over time. One thing I highly recommend is that if you feel any movement in the port when you place the charger plg in, take the phone in immediately. These ports will break off completely if you keep going and once separated from the board, Sprint will definitely try to charge you. It is much easier when it is still semi connected, so do not wiggle the cord trying to get it to come on like most people will commonly do.I was actually going to get a cradle charger ( I have an extra battery from my TP2) and use that to put less wear and tear on it. I am glad this thread was made as it has reminded me to do so. I would honestly say , this problem is a known issue and can only imagine how many people will get charged for it , especially after the 1 year is up..Be gentle with the cable when connecting and disconnecting and hopefully you will remain trouble free.

Re: Bad MicroUSB Port-Sprint
So...went to Sprint today and the tech looked at it and said he was going to replace it.
He ordered a phone for me and said it would take 2 business days to get it. Meanwhile, I have to use my semi-broken phone...that I wiped in case they were gonna hassle me. So I have no wifi tethering and my contacts and mms are gone until I restore. PLUS, they said they had to charge me $35 for a warranty repair (I don't have TEP or insurance). I'm going to call and get it removed. I didn't feel like arguing with the guy about it in the store. The tech told me it's been happening with a lot of the microUSB port phones. He said he never sees it on the Palm phones though. |
