the only issue with rooting is the automatic updates if i remember correctly. thus that is the only thing holding me back. I may wait a few months to get the 2.3. I do hope that Android 3.x will work also. the only thing is they said android 3.x honeycomb is for tablets. so if that is the case then what version numbers will they use for the next new full non point release version 4? so then even releases are for phone and odd releases are for tablets? and chrome os for netbooks? too many os systems, they need one os for them all.

That doesn't mean that honeycomb is exclusively for tablet..my guess is it means it has optimizations for it...that said it might set minimum requirements and etc..

Though I personally don't see htc optimizing honeycomb for both the dual core cortex a9 and old snapdragon..

Re: Is the EVO getting Gingerbread?

It would be great to get Gingerbread but it's not a nessessity at this point. The EVO as it stands with Froyo is the best phone that has ever lived...period.

the life of a smart phone is very short about 3 to 6 months. The Evo is outdated as in Quarter 1 in 2011 their will be a dual and quad core android phones on the market. So yes right now it is the best but not for much longer.

Yes, unfortunately Evo's snap dragon cpu doesn't have the llama power to push gingerbread OS. All galaxy s owners will reap the rewards cuz of our Hummingbird.

As previously stated, if you are rooted ( like every good EVO owner should be ) you WILL have Gingerbread. Also, if you are perusing these wonderful forums you should be rooted. If not, stop reading NOW and head over to the Upgrade thread, get rooted, and this thread will be moot!

Woah kimosabe, I am in no way upset at you or at what you said, relax. All I was saying is that the majority of sprint employees are really not in the know when it comes to up to date information. Any information they have is nothing but a google search away for the rest of us. There has never been a time when a sprint rep has told me something I didn't already know or wasn't already posted online.
