Re: HTC Evo 4G - TERRIBLE BATTERY LIFE! HELP PLEASE!

Man, lets take on the problem at hand...

1. kill friend stream....start up "TALK" in your apps, hit the menu button at bottom and select settings then uncheck auto sign in....then select sign out...

2. Reduce brightness to about 30% and uncheck auto adjust.

3. Lose ATK as 2.2 has one built in, but refrain from using it as 2.2 manages apps internally.

4. Qik....ALWAYS sign out after using and exit app, otherwise it will poll constantly draining battery.

*note*
Always use an apps menu to exit if it has one!

5. In sync, uncheck contact sync, everything else is ok. Only sync to google when needed. It's an extra step but will help with batt.

6. Some will say to that formatting your SD card will help but I still would like to know how. Formatting an SD card has absolutely no bearing on batt life on any device but thats your call. As with rooting, that's your call too.

7. Don't use live wallpaper. You can use ANY background you wish as color has no bearing on batt life, unless you keep it on the home screen for hours at a time....

These are just a FEW tips and you will learn more as you read and progress. I get 18-24 hours with moderate use, on stock 2.2 and not rooted, with just about every service turned on. Your mileage will vary though. Just remember to EXIT or SIGN OUT of an app that you are not using and/or finished using. Good luck man and hope you like your new EVO! Remember, we are here to help!

Re: HTC Evo 4G - TERRIBLE BATTERY LIFE! HELP PLEASE!

His problem is obviously beyond these simple tricks... My guess is the phone isn't sleeping. Do me a favor, go to settings, about phone, battery and tell me if the up time and awake time are the same. My guess is they are. Same thing happened to me when I first got my phone, had to hard reset but after I did everything was copacetic. Take a look at those numbers and tell me if I'm right.

With juice defender and setcpu I get around 18 hours with moderate usuage. It all matters on how my reception in though. It sounds like your phone isn't sleeping. There has to be a app that is draining your battery. I can leave my phone unplugged over night and it will maybe drain 5% over 8 hours.

Funny you should mention that, being rooted can greatly improve your battery life simply because you are able to flash custom kernels that have drastic effects on battery life itself...I am running Baked Snack ROM and his Kernel#5 and its normal for me to see 12hrs on heavy usage and 18+ on moderate usage, as far as heavy usage I mean every app running and over 20 phone calls, 500 text messages, continuous email checking and Facebook updates not to mention you tubing (which is the biggest drain) but battery life was a issue until the new kernels at XDA came out with "havs" and all the other goodies.

Re: HTC Evo 4G - TERRIBLE BATTERY LIFE! HELP PLEASE!

Well, that was my point. Qik, friend stream, and google sync can cause the phone to not sleep. After starting Qik and friend stream, my phone never slept until I signed out and closed them. Like Frost, I can leave my phone unplugged all night and lose maybe 5%. I also get great batt life nad I'm all stock.

Re: HTC Evo 4G - TERRIBLE BATTERY LIFE! HELP PLEASE!

@ericmcintire - Yes, those numbers are the same.

@gator352 - Thanks man! That helped a lot, definitely removing ATK then. Other than that, I had done everything that you stated prior to this topic.

@hooover - Woah, that's amazing! I'm coming straight from the iPhone, and I'm an iPhone expert on jailbreaking; etc. I'm just really afraid that rooting my Evo will brick it. So is it definitely worth it to root it? I mean, that battery life is AMAZING!

Also, if someone could provide a link on rooting an evo running stock 2.2, that'd be really helpful.

Thanks again everyone

Re: HTC Evo 4G - TERRIBLE BATTERY LIFE! HELP PLEASE!

Maybe you found this already, but ensure that you turn off Google TALK from auto logging in, and then sign out if you don't use the service.

Your battery needs a good 4 to 5 charges and discharges before it is broke in. You also need to ensure you do not let the battery drain to nothing during that break in period and after that maybe only once per month. It is better to charge your phone twice per day than let it drain until it shuts off so you only have to charge it once per day.

I also recommend you do not use a task killer. They are not needed, and depending on your settings, could be causing more problems than they do good.
