In terms of specs most of the advantage comes from the CPU and onboard GPU..The snapdragon in the EVO is pretty much 4 years old..while the CPU in the Epic is 1 years old...The GPU on the Evo is a bit lower then a PSP..the GPU on the Epic is a EVO + PS2 combined >.> The Super AMOLED supposedly uses less energy then standard LCD and the 45nm process on the CPU means less energy use there too.. But its not like Galaxy S phones are without issues..top 3 issues being (This is not about the Epic..this about Galaxy S phones in general) 1) GPS problems for some people (community made a few workarounds but it does not help everyone..samsung promised a fix in September) 2) Samsung messed up making the I/O crappy..(community has a fix for this and it makes a huge difference in getting rid of some lag) 3) Unexplainable battery drainage (yes I know I said the components drain less...well they should but some people, mostly in the US version are reporting large battery drain..of course even with this drain its still a bit better then the evo by a tad bit..those that have no drain one got 84 hours battery life on-stock..but this is GSM..CDMA uses more energy) But yeah it was bound to end up a VS thread :/ Check out the Samsung Galaxy Series sub forum for a bunch of reviews on the Epic and such..

jk So far only thing I saw on a WP7 phones that I wanted was the Xen flash *drool* We will see soon enough...M$ better hurry as HP is gonna try to get back in the game soon as well with WebOs, then there is Intel and Nokia who plan to release a MeeGo open source platform and a phone as well in 2011..so I imagine 2011 is gonna be an all out OS war :/ |

A great report and one that makes me think twice about changing to the Epic. Goodness gracious.

Either device you can't go wrong.phones being sold these days are pretty much even.the epic will play games better (galaxy proc.is freaking awesome)every phone will have issues but look at it like this if you buy the evo today.epic comes out end of the month and you can return.a simple "try em both"at the store won't be enough.both phones are great I doubt you will regret your buy whichever you decide to get.

Re: So what do you guys think so far?
A guy I work with has exchanged his Galaxy S twice cause the battery won't last longer than 6 hours. My EVO has never been that bad and I know I do more on my phone then he does.
GPS still isn't fixed..I mean how long has the phone been out now? and yes the overseas version counts also. Seems like Samsung support is about exactly the same as it was before. As long as the Galaxy S has been out this is no excuse not to issue a fix. That is my biggest gripe with the whole phone and many others. Samsung support has always SUCKED and everyone was talking about how this phone was going to be their flagship phone and it was going to be on ALL carriers and Samsung would for sure support the device and change their reputation. What was the latest word for a fix? September? Really? Sure glad it didn't take HTC to release a sdcard fix oh and another OTA fix not long after that one..Oh wait that fix was available the day of release. Don't even try and say it was because of the google EVO's that were floating around that made the fix so quick. Samsung has had the Galaxy S released in Europe much longer then google EVO's were available before launch. They knew about the GPS long before the US launch. Samsung hasn't changed at all and I am glad I didn't wait for the Epic. |
