im rooted but not Nand unlocked and im on omj 1.9 tried the ota and d/l went fine started to update and half way it stops with the pic of a phone and red "?" then boots back to omj

If I'm not mistaken, the .6 version has not been rooted. I had in issue with a thread titled something like "evo official 2.2 rooted" but the whole thing is about a leaked version built into a rom and this and that don't work and blah blah blah.

Until you can load the real official 2.2 update and then reroot your phone, in my book, it hasn't been rooted.

Hmm. So maybe I'm a little confused then. I thought once rooted, you would be able to use apps like Wifi Tether and other "rooted only" apps. But apparently they don't work?

I thought if something had been rooted, I could install this OTA/HTC Website update and root it. Can you do that? Or are the people who updated via the website or OTA screwed? To me, this just seems like a rom ported off 2.2.
